Feb-11-02, 03:17 PM (EST) 12. "RE: Shunting down Marias Pass... A new steam engine..." Hi Jens Chris. What a beauty. I'll do the .eng file if you want. I was going to build a Big Boy but you beat me to it. I have all the plans for it so I can get the .eng file 99.99% accurate. the only .01% is the cylinder cocks. You can only have 2. But I have been working on trying to get 4. And since we are on the subject of Big steam I might as well tell you all. I'm building a 1940's mallet as we speak. It's been in production since last monday. Anyway back to Jens Chris' Big Boy. If you need an .eng file guy let me know. If you want to e-mail me just click the e-mail button. Keep up the good work. Feb-12-02, 09:22 AM (EST) 45. "Sound files" Wow!Since it is two engines, it can have 2 separate sets of sound files (each engine pointing to a different set of chugs) . This will allow it to sound exactly like it should. I've experimented quite a bit with double headed engines, same engines, one with slightly different chug speed. They sound exactly like 3985, the UP 4-6-6-4, with the exhausts going in and out of sync. I can probably find time to tackle a set of sounds, and have good source material for chugs, whistle and bell. I'd suggest the eng file pointing to the stock scotsman SMS, one for each section. This is an easy sms to modify and also the only one I've gotten the bell to work with.Congratulations on a fine achievement!Steve Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-13-02, 00:46 AM (EST) 48. "RE: Oh my..!" That is a nice looking model you got there Jens, its a HUGE break through in MSTS!!But about TA makeing another Big Boy, I would still like to see them model the Big Boy, no offense Jens, you have a great model right here. But TA spends ALOT of time and effort researching their projects to get them as accurate as posible, and i think such a marvelous locomotive as the Big Boy needs to be modeled and textured as accurately as possible, and TA surely has the skills to do this, as theyve allready shown.I hope no one takes this post the wrong way, im not trying to say Jens' model is bad or anything. Im just saying that a loco of this magnitude should be created by the best of the best.Trevor Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>best of the best. Nope! Your post isn't taken the wrong way at all. I agree with you completely... I don't doubt this guy is talented. But he's a bit too fast about knocking em out. As this is his first steam locomotive and as he's already admitted to knowing nothing about how a steam locomotive is built, I personally think it's going to have some mechanical deficiencies.... (I reserve judgement on that one till it is completed) Jens, you need to slow down an do the research.... This is such a monumentally important release, that you must get it right first time. There are no second chances on this one. I think you also need to find a talented texture artist who's prepared to put the time in to get it right. I think it's great that you're doing it and I think it's astounding that you've achieved it using TSM. Well done for that. To actually have it articulate in MSTS and have a result like this so far is indeed exceptional work. Ermmm we haven’t seen what the articulated steam pipes are doing on the curves yet??? Those are very carefully chosen screenshots??? BUT there are a lot of shapes to a steam locomotive that simply MUST be right!! Right now it looks a bit under scale size as well.... You need to be using an accurate drawing set. What I'm saying here Jens, IS well done for getting it this far... BUT PLEASE!! SLOW DOWN!! Do the research and get it right. We all want this loco, but we want it to be as good as it can be!Best Regards,
Julian (Fozzy The Bear)
