Feb-08-02, 11:51 PM (EST) 4. "RE: International Wide Vision Caboose Project" I've been wanting one of these to run over Marias. I probably should also do an early version with running boards, ladders, and the slightly higher cupola.Larry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-09-02, 02:21 AM (EST) 5. "RE: International Wide Vision Caboose Project" Would you consider doing a narrow cupola version? N&W ran a similar cabin car in the late 50's classed C-3. Here is a picture of one.

Feb-09-02, 10:34 AM (EST) 6. "RE: International Wide Vision Caboose Project" Sure. It should be an easy modification once the early version is done. That smoke jack at the extreme end of the car is very unusual.Larry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Re the D&H #35714:
Unfortunately, it is not my photo.
I usually remember to credit the individual or site when I post to this board, however in my posting haste I forgot! The photo is from George Elwood's fabulous site, as are most that I have posted here in the past. His Fallen Flags Home Page:http://www.dnaco.net/~gelwood/This photo, which is found in the Delaware & Hudson section on George Elwood's site,
http://www.dnaco.net/~gelwood/other/dh.html ,is linked directly thereto and is credited to Greg Dickinson:
Hope that helps, it sure would look great in MSTS!jfroth1

Feb-12-02, 10:13 AM (EST) 13. "RE: International Wide Vision Caboose Project" It shouldn't be difficult. The nice thing about International cabooses is that they were modular standard designs. Any idea how much shorter the McCloud cars were?Larry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-12-02, 10:34 PM (EST) 19. "RE: International Wide Vision Caboose Project" Here are a couple of photos to give you an idea of how "short" they were. Notice how close the trucks are to the battery box!the McCloud uses a caboose when connecting to the SP due to the switchback enroute to Mt. Shasta. (unless they run an SD38 at each end) An orange shorty would look real good with Chip's SD38-2.

Feb-12-02, 06:16 PM (EST) 16. "RE: International Wide Vision Caboose Project" Looks sweet
Has anyone put any thought on how to do proper(for 70's and on some roads 80's and earlier) caboose marker lamps, IE: green or amber showing front and red to the rear
the last time I saw these was about 10-12 years ago on a GT transfer leaving Bensenville Il's former MILW yard heading on to the IHB tracks. I saw this green signal(at least I thought)further down the train and couldn't remeber any signals at that location and kind of had a Oh Duh moment when I relized oh yeah
marker lights
they'd really spuce up those night shots from the rear of the train. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>This is pretty easy with the new TrainSim Wizard in 3dCanvas. You just drop a shape where you want the light and size it to the size you want the light to be, then pick the color you want. The program does the rest for you.Mike

Feb-19-02, 01:17 PM (EST) 21. "RE: International Wide Vision Caboose Project" The Wide Vision is my number one project and I am committed to getting it out. The modeling is complete and I have just received permission to use a nice set of BN photos to texture it.
I made the mistake of downloading the new PO&N route this weekend and didn't get anything else accomplished.

Feb-19-02, 03:11 PM (EST) 22. "Using pics" >I have just received permission to use a nice set of BN photos >to texture it. A question regarding this. I have used Dean Heacock's sites (www.trainweb.org/csxphotos and /chessiephotos) on several occasions for whole textures or parts of textures, or at least for reference. In many cases, there is no photographer mentioned, but I know Dean didn't take all of those pictures (I've sent him a couple, and my name isn't associated with them, which is OK- -I didn't put my name on the photos when I sent them to him). How does one obtain permission in these cases? When I was just doing models for myself, it didn't matter too much, but now that I've painted a model for the public arena, all of this copyright stuff is starting to bog me down a little and I'm trying to get it ironed out before I make any more mistakes. Thanks.Clayton

Feb-19-02, 04:14 PM (EST) 23. "RE: Using pics" This does not exactly pertain to what you just said, but
yes Clayton, I agree..all this copywrite stuff is getting the best of me at times as well...
For photos..I would think that if someone want's their name in the readme.txt for the photo used..should be enough. This way we could all have less trouble obtaining the tools we need to do our "free" hobby...but we need to know these things up front some how.Simply give or deny permission up front..in all things on this site, IF WE WANT TO DO THAT. Don't leave it out..let our desires be know. Put our wishes in the README.txt when we upload a model.Would anyone object to just writing "OK to USE for NON COMMERCIAL PURPOSES LIKE RESKINNING" in the readme.txt and let it go from there? How would we get this message out, and would anyone follow it...it should be a requirement in the readme.txt..(without being socialistic)...As soon as I figure out my TSM, I plan to do just that...let ANYONE use my creations as long as it's not sold. Just so it's made know in the readme text.
I've seen several say in their readme's that it is OK to skin the model freely as long as not's not sold. This is GREATI can only hope that there can be more done in this fashion.
After all, those of us in this hobby don't want anything but the best..for ALL models build or used or skinned or whatever. That's just my 2 cents worth...Paul Fowler k0iri

Feb-27-02, 01:56 PM (EST) 25. "RE: International Wide Vision Caboose Project" Although it may not be necessary for something like a caboose, I decided to go back and eliminate intersecting polygons to hopefully maximise its performance in MSTS. I hope to have it out in the next week or two.
