Jul-05-01, 02:54 AM (EST) ".3ds conversion help" Can you import a .3ds or .dxf model in MAX and export a MSTS-compatible .3ds file? I have a diesel in development I'm building in Rhino and will make publicly available if someone is willing to convert it to a 'dummy node-free' file. --Chip B.

Jul-05-01, 09:45 PM (EST) 1. "RE: .3ds conversion help" LAST EDITED ON Jul-05-01 AT 09:45 PM (EST)I was going to ask this same question. I am working on a new caboose in 3d Canvas. I have not purchased the full version, but plan to do so in the next few days. It has the ability to export .3ds files. I suspect that these files will not work, but if some one could process them for me, I would be greatly appreciative.Email me if you are interasted in helping out.

Jul-06-01, 07:31 AM (EST) 2. "RE: .3ds conversion help" Hello there,I heard on some other forum that someone was using 3d Canvas and it worked. I just wish I could remeber where I saw that post. If you get the full version would you please let us know how you make out. I think the MSTS community really needs a affordable modeling tool.Best,Roger Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-07-01, 03:52 PM (EST) 3. "RE: .3ds conversion help" I just downloaded 3D Canvas and tried it, and guess what - 'dummy nodes'. Also, there does not seem to be a way of naming the materials applied to the surfaces, which would also upset MSTS.Another one bites the dust.I have left a question on their tech forum though, maybe they will come up with something clever.Ian M.

Jul-07-01, 06:01 PM (EST) 6. "RE: .3ds conversion help" A kind offer, thanks, but Tim (of www.trainsimfiles.com) has already offered to help me. I would like to be able to do something myself though. There must be a cheaper alternative. If the file formats were properly documented, in particular what Kuju's conv3ds program is looking for, I might be able to write a program that could convert files with dummy nodes into the right heirachy.Ian M.
