Feb-04-02, 06:24 PM (EST) 4. "RE: WE NEED THE RIO GRANDE" Well the current roster for the K-37 is really blurry but here is what I can get.
490 is to my knowledge scraped
491 is at the Colorado Railroad Museum
492 is to my knowledge scraped
493 is currently in Silverton Colorado on display
494 is to my knowledge scraped
495 is to my knowledge scraped
496 is to my knowledge scraped
497 currently operating on the C&TS only K-37 in operation
498 in Durango Colorado
499 is to my knowledge scraped
Now for the easy roster the K-36 locomotives
480 D&SNGRR-Operational
481 D&SNGRR-Operational
482 D&SNGRR-Operational
483 C&TSRR-Non-Operational
484 C&TSRR-Non-Operational
485 Scraped in Salida Colorado
486 D&SNGRR-Operational
487 C&TSRR Operational
488 C&TSRR-Non-Operational
489 C&TSRR Operational
When it comes to any locomotives on the C&TSRR I may be wrong due to its condition
The only three K-28s (473, 476, and 478) are in operation on the D&SNGRR, yet the 476 may still be on display in the Roundhouse Museum.

>fan trip. Thanks, ADAM It derailed in 1999 if I remember correctly.... Twisted Chassis! Which to be honest is probably the worst thing that can happen to a steam loco mechanically.... No sign of the huge sum of money needed to put it right either!!Best Regards,

Feb-04-02, 08:49 PM (EST) 8. "RE: WE NEED THE RIO GRANDE" Well it looks like it to me that the 484 dosen't have a bright future. Its future will probably be sitting on display at a museum. I hate it when a steamer hits the dust. Thanks, Adam Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-04-02, 09:01 PM (EST) 9. "RE: WE NEED THE RIO GRANDE" On the bright side, a number of Rio Grande locos and other equipment sat at museum or display sites until the Durango and Silverton bought them, trucked them to the shops at Durango and restired/rebuilt them. So there's always hope. I remember riding the train to Silverton when the only motive power available was the 3 K-28's. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>So there's always hope. There is indeed always hope! all it needs is Time, Money and Energy to acieve. When all three come together it'll be done. The best thing we can do in the meantime is to build models of loco's that need help, so that the community doesn't forget what it's really all about!!Best Regards,

Feb-05-02, 07:06 AM (EST) 11. "RE: WE NEED THE RIO GRANDE" I know I guy up here in NC that has the tools and the time to do the job. But everyone knows that this job will not be cheap. I'll try to talk to him about this. The reason he might be able to do the job because he builds big parts for Cat Loaders and frames for Freightliner Trucks. Feb-05-02, 04:14 PM (EST) 12. "RE: WE NEED THE RIO GRANDE" The 484 derailed in 1999 while clearing the line of snow in early spring and rolled onto the fireman's side when it hit ice in the flangeway of the rail. The ice is believed to be from people riding snowmobiles trespassing on the ROW in the off season. It did not bend the chassis but rather slightly bent the piston rod and seriously messed up the brasses on the driver axles. 484 is supposed to be ready sometime around July this year and will run!!!! Also there are at least 2 K-37s in storage on the C&TS I think its the 495 and 492?Kevin
