Jan-31-02, 11:39 AM (EST) "BN Natural Gas SD40-2" I recall sometime ago, reading an article in trains magazine, about the BN setting up an engine to run on natural gas. I believe the paint was white, orange, and green. I could be wrong, but it would sure look cool anyways. Thanx Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-31-02, 12:49 PM (EST) 2. "RE: BN Natural Gas SD40-2" Yep, that's one of them. BN # 7890 and 7149 were experimental conversions. You can find more info and pictures, including the LNG tender car here:http://www.energyconversions.com/loco2.htmRon Paludan

Feb-01-02, 01:43 PM (EST) 3. "RE: BN Natural Gas SD40-2" is it theoretically possible; to have a medium-sized locomotive, like a GP50, to be equipped with a jet engine? with those titanium heat-repelling insulation things, with the jet exhaust vented upwards...im sure it would be noisy, and dangerous to be around, but on 190-lb. track in the winter time, im also sure it would generate a hell of a lot of traction because of the downward force...that would be one cool train Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-02-02, 03:15 AM (EST) 4. "RE: BN Natural Gas SD40-2" In 1966 New York Central used an experimental RDC with jet engines from a B-47 on a roof to test track for high-speed rail. It hit 183 MPH.
Check out the story here:

Feb-03-02, 01:28 AM (EST) 5. "RE: BN Natural Gas SD40-2" I was working on one of those (taken a bit of a break for a short while) Had the eng modified for them and everything (cab painted and lettered...just needed to change part of the body.Problem is the funky texturing on the chemical cars in MSTS...can't skin them properly wihout turning the axles green or white....really annoying when you think about it.
