Jan-28-02, 04:32 PM (EST) "On Trials with the Turbines..." Hi again,
as I stated in another post, I was once told that the UP Turbine locomotives as recreated by Jens-Chris Baerenz had only two throttle notches in reality - "power" and "no power". Thus I modified the ENG files accordingly and now have only these two settings. The problem now is that though basically the modification does work, it is hard to get the engines moving, because (naturally, with all that power...) they will suffer from wheelslip immediately when I open the throttle. Sanding has only limited effect.I'd much like to keep the "on-off" throttle, however, and thus my question...what parameters might I try to modify to prevent these locomotives from wheelslipping when I try to get them moving? I could imagine I might try a longer run-up time to maximum force, increasing the friction values, or something like that...Any input is welcome!
D.M.

The turbine itself had only two setting IE ON or OFF but the output from the generator to the traction motors was under separate control through the usual Diesel-Electric parallel / series resistance control system. It had several notches! It'd be impossible to drive in the real world if it didn't... The Turbine power was regulated automatically dependant on the power being requested by the traction motors. The turbine itself was set for constant speed running! and only increased its torque output by increasing the fuel flow, to compensate for the greater loads as requested from the generator. That's why the pitch of the engine doesn't increase as you add power only the volume and rumble increase.Hope that helps to clear that one up for you!Best Regards,

I could swear I read the statement I cited back when we were discussing the possibility of having turbine locos in TS...guess either the information was unprecise, or I mixed something up...Guess I've got to restore some ENG files...
Thanks again! It must be showing that I'm a bloody rookie, eh? D.M."Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
