This engine is most spectacular, just want to make it even more perfect Thanks, and TURBINE ON!!!!!! D.M."Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-28-02, 01:39 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Tiny Flaw on 8500 hp Turbine" Hi !Here is the designer of these locos...
I had the same problem...You must wait until the train brake is completely released, look into the Cab for the brake pressure and when it's at O%, then you can "turn the turbine on"...Sorry, but I didn't know, where the exhausts are, I asked for it, but nobody told me...
Coordinates...x 0.0
y 3.791
z -7.870Hope this helps...Keep enjoying MSTS !!!!Jens-Chris Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-28-02, 02:42 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Tiny Flaw on 8500 hp Turbine" Don't mind, Jens, one little flaw does not make a bad loco ! I played a bit with the coordinates you gave me, and here is what I ended up with:X = 0.661
Y = 4.89
Z = -7.949For "Exhaust4" through "Exhaust6" put a - (minus) before the 0.661 as well.One more question...I remember I once read that the turbine locos had only two throttle notches - "power" and "no power". Can you confirm that?D.M."Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-28-02, 03:14 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Tiny Flaw on 8500 hp Turbine" Sorry, but I'm only 15 years old, live in Germany, have never seen a turbine in real life, and my knowledge about US engines is so small...
Perhaps ace6789 knows... I'm sure, he knows everything...Jens-Chris Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Perhaps ace6789 knows... I'm sure, he knows everything...
I just love diesels and study them!!! I never seen a turbine either, even though I am twice your age plus!! I hope what I do on here is taken as help, and not arrogance. You by far and away are alot more skilled at this than me!! I just know some facts and specs, you can put it all together!!! I took your comment as a joke, and I hope it was meant as such!! Nice work, BTW!!!Kelley

You simply know, in which consists E-8s appeared, what kind of locos which railroads had, etc. ...It just wanted to give a honorary degree to you, because you know very much about the USA trains, and I wanna thank you for this information...Where could I get these infos, if I don't ask you ??I hope you don't got it the wrong way, sorry again...Jens-Chris Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-28-02, 03:33 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Tiny Flaw on 8500 hp Turbine" With this type of turbine it is either all the way on or stop. That is why fuel turbines are not used outside of jets and generating electricity. They are very inefficent unless the are running wide open. A steam turbine like N&W John Henry did not have to be run wide open as the amount of steam to the turbine could be regulated.At the time the UP turbines were built the were designed to burn Bunker C fuel, this is the nasty stuff in the bottoms of tanks and requires little processing to be used. At this time basically the only users of Bunker C was turbine power ships. However, the uses for Bunker C increased along with the general price increases made even this impractible. Jan-28-02, 04:45 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Tiny Flaw on 8500 hp Turbine" Hey I re-did the numbers for the Big Blow cab unit and the Turbine exhaust. The train sim will only recognize 2 exhaust effects for diesels and 1 for a steam stack. The following numbers are for a single plume for the cab unit and set a single light plume for the turbine unit at the port on the rear. The turbine units were not heavy smokers, most of the exhaust effects were from the heated air exiting the exhaust port. But for the sim I have the exhaust a little heavier than it would normally be.Great job on the turbines Jens-ChrisFirst, Cab Unit:exhaust plume datadefining the offset from the shape pivot point
