Harold,Your list shows one main point. The Pennsy had a lot of really inventive ideas, which translated to some truely intresting steamers.Although I couldn't help but notice one curoius admission from your list, can you say 2816?Chris Lee

Jan-25-02, 04:28 PM (EST) 2. "RE: My Steam wish list... (with pics!) - Touché" Hiya Chris..
Touché! - I suppose what I really meant to say was this was my wish list for oddball steam.. I have always been attracted to the weird and wonderful stuff.. I suppose I should have included
CP 8000.
Having said that, you are correct.. 2816 with vintage heavyweights, on Jason's Laggan Sub, would be heaven.
Hmm.. need pics of 2816, I can provide them (along with lots of dimensional and detail info, and detail pics are real easy for me to get <G>)Message Areas - "My Steam wish list... (with pics!)" – image 10 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-25-02, 04:36 PM (EST) 3. "RE: My Steam wish list... (with pics!) - Touché" Harold,Well, you certainly have some of the oddballs up there. When at Steamtown I used to marvel at the 4-4-4, although I think they donated it to somewhere and its no longer there anymore. Another one of my favorties was the 4-6-4T, a fine tank locomotive.Any and all 2816 stuff would be wonderful, maybe you could even put my in touch with the Enginners/firemen so I could pick their brains a little.8000, whats that?

Jan-25-02, 05:08 PM (EST) 5. "RE: My Steam wish list... (with pics!) - Touché" I'll scan my 2816 pics and pass em on.. What do you need to know
from the crew? I'll ask around and see what I can get as far as info goes..(I only know one of the crew, but I think I can get any info you may need..)
T4a #8000 was an experimental loco, utilizing steam at extremely high pressures, (over 300 psi)and was operated on the Mountain Subdivision from 1931-1936. Although the design proved to be moderately successful, its complexity made it difficult to maintain, and it was withdrawn from service and eventually scrapped in 1940. She was tricky enough to run that there were only a few crews qualified to operate her..I've got the specs at home somewhere, maybe a pic as well, I'll look when I get home
through the currnet blizzard.. Gotta love Calgary +9 degrees C and sunny yesterday, snow and down to -33C tonight.. boring its not..cheers

Jan-25-02, 05:19 PM (EST) 6. "RE: My Steam wish list... (with pics!) - Touché" Over 300 PSI, thats a time bomb waiting to go off if something bad goes wrong. Must not have been too successful, thats what ussally happened with all the weird engines. They were test beds that didn't work out. Nothing inparticular from the crew, I just always enjoy hearing what long time RR's have to say. Its always very intresting.Chris Lee

I knew in the back of my mind that you were a Closet Conrailer! ( PRR > PC > CR )......
BTW, Congratulations on your pact with Train Artisan, although IMHO your personal skins are very fine works as well.

Seriously though, hopefully someday all three of these will be available. And hopefully not the too, too distant future. And Chris Lee... all three ran on 300 psi. They are rumored to have up'd the Y-6b and A used versus the EMD F7 demonstrators to 310 or 320 psi, but even in the 70's the man who knew the truth wouldn't discuss the matter. That's OK, EMD people later admitted they tweaked the HP by 200 HP (from 1500 per unit to 1700 per unit, I think) for each of the 4 units during the tests as well. And, I wouldn't mind seeing a Pennsy T-1, they were definitely interesting, but I'd like to see some more everyday type power. And yes the Big Boy/Challenger would be good. And so would the Allegheny. Or SP's cab-forwards. There I admitted it. There were other engines that I appreciate besides N&W's!
