Jan-23-02, 10:20 AM (EST) "Interurbans - anyone want one?" Hi all,I've got TSM on the way, and I thought I'd try my hand at an interurban car or two. My main interest is the Milwaukee Electric but a North Shore car or two might be more popular. I'd need a bit of help, does anyone have cabviews and sounds for these cars. They're your typical 1920s type heavy interurban cars, and might be good for variety. What do you think?Matt Austin Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I can see them coming in handy on that stretch of Illinois Terminal that's on the IC2 route. Of course, you'll have to gimmick them to run since MSTS won't let us have track with and w/o catenary (trolley wire) on the same route, but it would be neat to see. Of course, the same issue is present for that section of NEC on the Hoboken Shore route. Diesel-powered GG1s, anyone?Take care,

I'm going to be noodling around with a couple of inter-urban juice jacks, fairly standard ones.I've also seen a couple of references to electrifying lines for overhead collection and third rail. For example, the Sacramento Northern used pantographs, poles and 3rd rail. I like the work that the aussie in this forum has posted. Tracks embedded in pavement and grass look good. However, the lack of some kind of overhead meeting his poles is a problem for me. Forgive me for rambling here but there are some issues to be resolved before we could put together a Traction/Interurban Forum. One thing I've thought about is modeling the standard trucks, e.g.: Brill, MCB and Baldwin, in various wheelbases and putting them in a library somewhere. It'd save an lot of work. Same thing with standard carbodies and pantos, poles and such. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-25-02, 06:39 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Interurbans - anyone want one?" Yes a PCC is a must-do for some talented 3d artist. My preference is for the Boston style air-electric some of which are still in service on the Mattapan line in a Boston Suburb. No I never lived in Boston. And Pacific Electric is also a must-do and have, especially the "Hollywood cars" as seen in the movie, "Roger Rabbit". Both of these units sported bright colors in their paint schemes. The PE color scheme of orange & red was even applied recently to a modern LA "light rail" car. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Maybe some PRR or Reading lines or even some EMU's I think Sam Spade has a cab car cabviev that would go with a modern Budd EMU. But whatever you put out will be just fine... Jan-24-02, 01:32 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Interurbans - anyone want one?" Of course!!! I find those commuter runs the most entertaining activities and really like the atmosphere of running trains through urban areas. Same reason why I like the Hoboken Shore a lot...it just has such a distinctive atmosphere, what with all those brownstone buildings and shady back alleys...kinda reminds me of Max Payne...probably the one most atmospherically dense game I have ever come across! Jan-24-02, 07:57 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Interurbans - anyone want one?" Electric commuter equipment such as the Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee or the New York Central's MU fleet with their trailer baggage cars would be interesting to model for MSTS. Both of these used outside third rail for power. The CNS&M used overhead power also via trolley poles. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I'm surprised it hasn't occurred to many to do this already. My favorite is the old Chicago South Shore and South Bend railroad, the Insull stablemate of the North Shore. There are many photographs of these available at: http://davesrailpix.railfan.net/index.htmlI also have three view drawiings available if you want them. There are probably three views of CNS&M equipment, including the Electroliners, available also - I'll have to dig around. Let me know if you need them : avallillo@earthlink.net Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
