Jan-21-02, 03:26 PM (EST) "NALW F40 is very very close" Don't settle for an imitation, get the "real deal"!
I thought you folks would like to look at the current development textures of our F40.... we have the cab interior and details left to do (the rear wheels will be copied from the front when the texturing is done.) Also note the underbody textures are just temporary. Also, Please note the windows are translucent, the plow is the correct Amtrak style, and the striping was designed to work with existing equipment (sorta).
Soon, Very Soon...
Sound Files and ENG Files are ready to go
Lights need some work....

Jan-21-02, 08:37 PM (EST) 2. "RE: NALW F40 is very very close" Seems kinda ODD to me that when 2 other f40s are coming out you come in and try to steal the show. NALW has held out on the train-sim community FOREVER! and that's not fair. You told us soon, soon , soon, AND IT NEVER CAME. Delays, delays . Phhh... trying to get all the glory when it FINALLY comes is kinda dumb.
Ok so lets get to the actual train. It's nice but it sure as hell took TOOOOOOOO much time in the making . I have a bad impression of NALW right now . It's sad that I feel this way but it's true, damned true to say the least.

Jan-21-02, 08:56 PM (EST) 5. "RE: NALW F40 is very very close" Dude, we are not trying to steal the show! We did not hold out on the community as you alledge! As has been documented on this forum. Buzz Benz, who is our 3d modeler on this project, had a major computer disaster while upgrading, and had serious problems with 3DCanvas running under Windows/XP (the author of 3DC was very slow with a fix, Buzz reports it still isn't fixed almost 2 months later) and in fact Buzz has had to rollback and add a Win/98 partition in order to recover what he had before so he didn't loose several months of work! On top of that he has a real life with a real demanding job! That's our problem not yours! If not for all of that you would have had this F40 before Christmas as we originally intended. Sorry you don't like us but you don't have to use our products. This is a hobby called Freeware! However a little GM vs. Alco vs GE competition never did the hobby any harm! I'm sure the Fans will decide! In any event they will get a variety of choices! BTW, Which of the other two projects are you affiliated with? Possibly the one that is miffed because we won't license our Cab and Sound package to them before we release our own product?>Seems kinda ODD to me that

Jan-21-02, 10:10 PM (EST) 9. "RE: NALW F40 is very very close" Has anyone heard the phrase that "patience is a virtue"? How about "Good things come to those who wait"? I can honestly say that I've been waiting for the F40 to be completed for some time now but I have respect for the NALW's work. I have the entire fleet of Superliners and also the Baggage car that was done by Chuck and Buzz. Their work has an exceptional quality that I have to say I haven't quite seen from the pictures of the other F40s. I really think that the NALW's F40 will be worth the wait. Now I don't think that it should be looked at as a competition. If all three versions of the F40 would end up coming out around the same time, we should just sit back and enjoy them. True railfans will be able to tell what is protypically correct and what is not. The number of downloads will prove that. Just keep bringing on the Amtrak!!!!!##########RailQueen########## Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-22-02, 00:08 AM (EST) 17. "RE: NALW F40 is very very close" Hey Mr CPrailman! How ya doin? I think its TOO bad you find it so hard to beleive that our F40 is coming out at the same time as the others! Variety is the spice of life, so why don't you go cry somewhere else or better yet, draw your own locomotives! S#!t happens, and Buzz didn't intentionally sabatoge his system so everyone couldn't use the beloved F40. If you recall, we have been working on this for a long time, and even with all of these unexpected delays I think people wont mind the way once they get to operate it for the first time. Also, to remind everyone that we normal people like most of you, who are here doing this on our own personal time. We all have lives with obligations to family and work before "play time" with MSTS comes along.
Maybe you think that all of us at NALW finished the F40 a long time ago and we have been playing with while laughing at YOU because you dont have one! NOT!!!!!!! We are here to SHARE our talents with everyone who wants to take part, NOT steal the spotlight or whatever you think we are doing. Trains are a great hobby which can lead to a lot of fun. No one needs someone like you to come and try to spoil that. So I will challenge you to try stop wasting your time by crying about us, and go go make something productive for this game for the rest of us to use. I know WE will look forward to bringing everyone more quality add ons for this game in the future! A BIG thanks to everyone who keeps giving us pats on the back as it does help motivate us when the going gets tough!

Could I already have permission for two Tri-Rail repaints? 810 and 811?????????CPrailman: You know, there IS a thing called coincidence. It just might of been that they have just gotten to this spot in construction, and it just happens that there are 2 other F40s coming out. If you don't like the NALW F40, don't use it! Jan-21-02, 09:12 PM (EST) 6. "RE: NALW F40 is very very close"
Thanks Kurt.
when it is released we will have some sort of "Reskinning" package arraingement available!
You know at least one of the other 2 projects is using TSM which, by all accounts, is an easier package to master than the 3DC Buzz uses. Buzz feels that 3DC, while harder to master, allows him more ability to create a wide variety of objects than TSM! Thats his preference! Consequently the development cycle in 3DC appears to be significantly longer than TSM. Altho Buzz swears 3DC produces a better product. You the user have to make that decision.

Jan-21-02, 11:03 PM (EST) 15. "RE: NALW F40 is very very close" It's hard to see in the shots, but the cutout for the horn is already there. Both sets of horns for Amtrak were situated in that cutout - the only difference was that the cutout was widened for the K5LA. We designed it so that we can quickly narrow the cutout (or even remove it) for different style horns.------ BUZZ ------

I opened up TSM the other day, and while it looks like an excellent product, I don't like editing in the 3-pane orthographic setting (top, front, side). 3DC's perspective-view editing and drag-and-drop is much more intuitive for me, and the tools allow for amazing refinement. I don't know for sure what problem Buzz was having, but I know that Richard (developer of 3DC) has been wrestling for a long time with a WinXP/Nvidia/Direct3D API conflict, caused by a flaw in Nvidia's drivers. The afflicted part of the API is infrequently used, though, so he's had a hard time actually getting Nvidia to take notice of his complaints.troub

Jan-21-02, 10:59 PM (EST) 14. "RE: NALW F40 is very very close" That was the problem. It was Windows2000 that i was having the problem with, and we could not take the computer out of service after i discovered it did not work with my new GeForce3 Ti200 (the drivers that support that card are the ones with the problem) as we did some online shopping for Christmas and my wife had an e-course for school! We had already decided we were going to WinXP after Christmas, and so we had a "planned outage" when we got it where i could re-format the HD, partition it, and do a Win98/WinXP dual boot. As for the accusations, it just so happens that i ordered WinXP ONE DAY before word of Jens-Chris's father's F40 surfaced. I had already posted in a couple of threads about the progress of ours before word of the second (actually 3rd) F40 came out.------ BUZZ ------

Jan-22-02, 00:43 AM (EST) 19. "RE: NALW F40 is very very close" *Bowing to Buzz and Chuck*
I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy! In all seriousness...I think we've all been watering at the mouth for an F40PH (In my opinion THE passenger engine of the modern era) ever since this game came out. The fact is, we all have computer glitches that take us out of service for a while...anybody with AOL knows that! The key is, so what if there's 3 versions of the F40 coming out? Bachman and Athearn have different versions of the same engines and they both do pretty well. I will probably download all versions because I like to have a lashup of different road numbered units. That and it's nice to have different things sitting around the Amtrak yard. There'll be a new (better) P42 pretty soon that I'm sure will co-exist with the poo-poo one we're driving now. Just be glad the loco is coming out at all...ESPECIALLY FOR FREE!!!!! These guys do this out of the goodness of their hearts and fondness of trains. That's something we all share here (until now I wasn't aware the Railfan community was so vast) and something I cherish. Just imagine if we could all get together and go chase trains in America, Australia, Great Britian, South America..everywhere. Canada too. Seems like that'd be nice. There's too much hate and feud in the world...since 9-11 we've all been keenly aware of this. Let's not bring it into a sub-culture that at it's heart is pure and wonderful. I'll step down off the soapbox. BlakeVice Dean, Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Anyways ,sorry for any trouble, I know you all work hard to make additions for the Train-sim community and all. Many of them DO use the same basic brake stand/control stand layout but the controls and layouts are different; not to mention the window shapes and general cab layout. I will waste some bandwidth later tonight and post here for your edification photographs of each of these units and see if if your comment holds any water!I have used many of the basic animated controls to save time so the handles may be more rounded or flat or whatever but the cab layouts are stylised examples of the correct layouts. You KNOW they don't all look like that??????? NALW is one of the best TWO groups in TranSim, don't have to respect the group, but respect all the people who need their stuff. I want these guys around (my trainsim folder wants it) so I propose it may be a good idea to quit barking, buy your own tools and do whatever you want to meet your own demends, do your own cabs, do your own shmabs, do whatever the hecksterino come to mind, just let those guys be. Jan-23-02, 10:04 PM (EST) 34. "RE: NALW F40 is very very close" The problem is in your choice of wording. What you actually said is "why not try a 3d cab, the cab looks liek the same cab for the f45 and most of your diesel cabs. " Now you are saying you said some of the components are the same. These are NOT the same comments; they do NOT have the same meaning.I responded to what you wrote. With regards your new comment:Yes, I re-use components; I also use default components. So do the manufacturers. I do however remake components when it is obviously different - for instance there are different speed recorders; load meters; ammeters; other controls as appropriate. Colours are changed where colours vary etc. The cabs are stylised versions of the originals. To attempt to recreate them to the nth degree would take more time. More time = less variation. Make up your own mind. What does the community want? More variation or more accuracy in the minutae?I could have asked you to buy the 3D software and forward it to me together with some money for training courses but that would be outrageous Everyone is supposed to be enjoying themselves.-------SamSpade--------
