Jan-14-02, 05:13 AM (EST) "And he comes back up for Air ! Check out ICE-3 etc... "The New Generation"" Hi everybody ! It's been a while and allthough it seems that I 've been gone for quite some time I've been checking up on things every once in a while...At this time I'd like to update everyone on what I'm up to and what I'm working on...First of all, yes I'm involved with "Pay Ware" BOOOO ! I know...
Anyone who didn't see that coming wasn't listening... Second of all I will make good on delivering some more freeware add-on's like the Schienenzeppelin etc.. as promissed as soon as the product I'm working on ships... "Hopefully Soon" What am I working on !?
High Speed Trains by Aerosoft Gmbh in Germany.. (Again... didn't see it coming = blind)
And Yes, I'm still part of 3DTrains, which can be found here :
http://www.3dtrains.com
and contains my e-mail link.here's the Link... http://www.aerosoft.de/ click on the train, then look for the word "Add Ons" in teh top right hand corner and then click on High Speed Trains.... For the non "Deutsch" speaking people... For any technical questions etc.. I'm fair game I'm here to help and contribute... just as always !Now for the E Y E C A N D Y...
One Busy Station Kassel HBF, one of the many brand new especially built ICE Lines... Still under construction... of course
One brand spanking new finished ICE-3 Cab... Incl. Side views of course Puposefully omitted so some "Wiseguy" doesn't piece together a full Acela'ized ICE Cab
Ice-3 in both DB (German) and NS (Dutch) Liveries, next to an ageing DB 218, one of a kind as well... DB 218-219-8 I belive... the only one to get the TEE Colors...
Here are all the "Main locomotive Bodies" Excluding the DB 216 which is in the set but is very similar to the 218 depicted here... Present are...ICE-3NS ICE-3DB DB-BR218 ICE-1 DB-BR103
and there she goes off to "Fulda" a little further south... with a nice high speed track developed especially for high speed traffic this will be a German Scenery and Livery Add-on you won't want to miss...

Jan-14-02, 12:27 PM (EST) 4. "RE: And he comes back up for Air ! Check out ICE-3 etc... "The New Generation"" LAST EDITED ON Jan-14-02 AT 12:30 PM (EST)Hi Andrei, nice try. Could it be that you tried to make this train? The ICE 3?
Maybe I should inform you that this train is round and not flat. Also your proportions are wrong. The modell you have used is very simple. Just a box and chamfered the edges. This makes a box smoother but using it on ICE 3 is really wrong. The whole ICE 3 is nearly round, so you should try to modell by hand (!) this is a hint. Also your used smoothing groups are wrong. For the non 3d artists: smoothing groups shade polygons and make them so smoother. You can make a sphere looking round by a few polygons.
If your smoothing groups where applied correctly than there should be no border, between the side, your edges and the top. Also your textures are wrong. The ICE 3 windows are nearly black till brown. It's only possibile to look inside if your nose is on the window and your hands block the sunlight. The front window is also to large.
The inside of the ICE 3 looks nice. The Cabview looks nice but is wrong. You'll never see diagrams on the computerscreens. Also they are not green. This are multi color displays and they are used to show the electronic timetable of a train. The cabview is not flat, its round. So your computers should be not planar with the middle controls.
BTW: The side textures aren't mapped proberly (also the front of the train). My image was taken from the ProTrain Addon ICE 3 www.bluesky-interactive.comKeep on modelling! Maybe you'll find the right polygons

Jan-14-02, 01:55 PM (EST) 7. "RE: And he comes back up for Air ! Check out ICE-3 etc... "The New Generation"" You are right.
The Pro Train cab is horable and i also don´t like the Pro Train -ICE 3 very much.BUT: - your ICE3 doesn´t look like a ICE 3 ! It its far too high and the textures are no good and not properly assigned.
And what MG said, the ICE 3 is not made of Boxes like Dash9 or somethin, its ROUND !I wouldn´t say anything if this was a freeware product, but makeing payware means making quality trains. Maybe you should ask
Siemens if they can give you the construction plans.Don´t get me wrong ! I like much of the work presented in this forum, of course a lot looks quite simple and you see it is beginners work, but they don´t behave like MEGAGURUS or something like this, they just like what they did (as i like my modells too, even so i know they are not professional).
By the way, that is what the ICE3 looks like :

(BTW what school does one go to to become a "3D-artist", and what distinguishes real 3D-artists from us mere mortals dabbling with 3D software?)From the pictures below it's clear that Andrei's representation of the ICE3 is closer to the real thing than yours, even though neither is 100% correct (Andrei's should be more rounded and yours should be more flattened, but I guess it was influenced by your ego and turned out overinflated too). The pictures are from "The European Railway Picture Gallery" (http://mercurio.iet.unipi.it/pix/de/electric/emu/ICE/ICE-3M/pix.html) and were taken by Tobias Köhler:

Jan-14-02, 02:10 PM (EST) 8. "RE: And he comes back up for Air ! Check out ICE-3 etc... "The New Generation"" Eat my shorts. Nice argument. I thought we could discuss it not like children. At first to say, the ProTrain ICE and the Cabview is not my work. If I would make this modell and cabview, I would shame myself to critize Andrei's work. I just find the ProTrain ICE looking more really than Andrei's ICE. The ProTrain Cabview you've posted is really boring. And they also made a new one which looks more realistic. There seems to be more version of the ICE 3 Cabview. If you search the net you should find a darker version of the train. Also thanks for the real pictures. So you can see that you can't look inside. Jan-14-02, 08:25 PM (EST) 19. "RE: And he comes back up for Air ! Check out ICE-3 etc... "The New Generation"" I guess Andrei will soon find out he can't sell payware AND have his glory / personality cult too.I found the post that started this thread rather self-congratulatory and immodest. Coming from Train Artisan that sort of tone is OK (their stuff is state-of-the-art, and free) but coming from Andrei it comes off as slightly arrogant. In any case, I have yet to see an MSTS model that is beyond reproach-- be that freeware or payware. Mine are certainly open to criticism.--

Jan-14-02, 03:58 PM (EST) 12. "RE: And he comes back up for Air ! Check out ICE-3 etc... "The New Generation"" Hi Andrei, excuse me if I start off by correcting you, but your original
message included the following line:"One Busy Station Kassel HBF, one of the many brand new especially built ICE Lines... "It is true that the station shown on your pic was built
especially for the ICE services in the late 1980s,
but the station's name is not Kassel HBF but Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe.
Kassel HBF(Kassel Central) also exists, but lies about
4 kilometers away from the Wilhelmshöhe station. By today,
only very few trains service this station, as it is a
terminal. As an old terminal is useless for high-speed services
that are only supposed to stop at a station as shortly as
possible, the Wilhelmshöhe Station was built.Concerning your ICE 3 cab:
it looks good and I guess that the contents of your
computer screens can't be that wrong as they are shown on
one of the pictures. Most likely, the ICE-trains have different
computer systems than the other locomotives. All the german
locomotives have recently been equipped with the mentioned
computer system that displays the train's timetable. It is
called EBuLa (Elektronischer Buchfahrplan mit Langsamfahrstellen)
and is not yet officially in service, as some technical problems
have not yet been solved. I've seen these computers on many
different locomotives, but not on any ICE, neither the ICE1
(whose computer system is far older anyway), nor the ICE3.
If I should be wrong and the ICE3 should have that system, just
let me know. This is what the EBuLa system looks like when in action:
These are the different elements of the screen:
-ZF A 66- the communications channel in the area the
train is currently in
Hmb-Alt Bft Pbf is the station the train is departing from.
In this case, it's Hamburg-Altona.
The black line to the left with the numbers next to it is the
current maximum speed.
To the right of the maximum speed are the kilometer positions
of the listed items.
At the right border of the screen is the scheduled time
of arrival/departure.
If you look at the menu bar at the bottom, you can see that
the system is based on Windows (yuck!)Feel free to use the picture if you want to integrate it into
your cabview.

Jan-14-02, 05:14 PM (EST) 15. "RE: And he comes back up for Air ! Check out ICE-3 etc... "The New Generation"" I applogogize, Kassel Wilhelmshoehe...
My mistake... I thought they were one and the same...
I was mistaken... sorry ! Kassel HBF is not going to be in the add-on... I used to live in Koeln where ther truely big "Bahnhof" was the HBF.... back in the late '80s....The route goes from Kassel Wilhelmshoehe to Fulda HBF, I'm 90% certain it is Fulda HBF.....And as I'm told this was a rescently constructed strech especially for the ICE line of High Speed Trains....As to the MFD I would "LOVE" to integrate the information that you have provided, but my hands are tied and I can't get access to mileposts and speedlimits of the track from within the Cab controlls, as far as I know... Plus you can always pull up the "F4" for the Track View...Thanks for the Suggestion !Andrei

Jan-15-02, 06:11 AM (EST) 20. "RE: And he comes back up for Air ! Check out ICE-3 etc... "The New Generation"" Hi Andrei,it is true that you can't access the informations shown on the
screen for the cabview. This is really one thing that should
be changed in TS Updates to come. Also, I think that it should
also be possible to integrate working instruments/gauges into
the side views, at least the side view to the left which in
most cases (Acela etc.) features a part of the dashboard.
For example, the class 120 dashboard I am working on has
the overhead cable voltage/currant gauges shown in the left
side view. These informations are accessible, but can't be
integrated as instruments into the side views. This is really
something for the guys at Kuju to change. To get back to the EBuLa screen:
I've figured out a little trick which makes it possible
to at least animate the computer screen: german locomotives
do not have a bell, therefore the switch for the bell is
unused. If you make a bell switch which consists of the
images of two different computer screens and place it where
the screen is supposed to be on the dashboard, you can change
the content of the screen during the simulation by pressing
the bell button. To get rid of the bell sound, just insert
a blank wave file into the sounds directory.
Like this, you can for example switch between the EBuLa
system screen and the locomotive status/diagnostics screen.
Even more different screens are possible if you create a
"switch" with more than two positions. Basically, this whole
thing is useless but looks quite nice... If you are interested in experimenting with the method
described above, I have screenshots from several different
locomotive types (101,145,152,ICE1). The older locomotives
like the 103 and the 120 only have the EBuLa system as
they didn't have a computer system when they were built.PetervonFrosta2

Jan-15-02, 12:46 PM (EST) 21. "RE: And he comes back up for Air ! Check out ICE-3 etc... "The New Generation"" That is quite fascinateing... The problem is I allready have a use for the B button, and since the screens couldn't show any gauges that show values because the insrument values are drawn last ( Show up on top ) switching the Background pages would only show a static vlaue... so accurate and a good representation but not very usefull.... I wish they's let you write C or Java or even write their own scripting engine where you can assign any key to any function and setup your own gauges... it would make doing cabs much more painfull but not that much more than it is right now Great thought though... I saw something similarly cool with Train Artisan's Pantograph / Door trick, the problem is always you have to "Fool" the engine into doing what you want, plus I need my "P" buttin for my pantographs Take care...Andrei Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"The New Generation"" I would like to say even though I may come off as "Hot Headed" at times... both in the past as now... I work hard on these models and the last thing I expected was the Competitor who offered me $250.00 (Buy Out for source code) for the DB103 that sits in the back... to come and criticize my models that He may have a technical edge over me but esthetically can't hold a candle to. The whole incident left a really bad taste in my mouth. Again I appreciate all your kind words and I hope after this "Work" I can get back to doing these as a hobby and release things I see worthwhile and Unusual "Schienenzeppelin" to build for people to enjoy for little or no payment.... Jan-14-02, 08:24 PM (EST) 18. "RE: And he comes back up for Air ! Check out ICE-3 etc... "The New Generation"" I would also Like to note that the Ice-1 as seen in some of the images has been updated with new-er (Incl. the highlights as on Ice-3) textures and a full cab and re-designed pantograph....If you downloaded / wondered about the Freeware ICE-1 and the inaccuracy of the shape, rest assured it has been corrected according to Blueprints furnished by Aerosoft. I am sorry to say that I cannot release it as freeware at this point but maybe as time goes on I will update the shape to more accurately reflect the true form as is the case with the payware version. Also note that I won't discount those people who will purchase the retail version it will look and feel as any retail version should, and the shareware... will have a Stock Cab and Interior, which I will custom design for all my creations but will not be Specific to anything and will be a good "All Purpose" cab.
