Jan-13-02, 05:55 PM (EST) "Japanese Steam Locomotive 8620" MSTS Japanese "8620"I got and installed "C50" from Train-Sim.Com. It will be the first MSTS steam locomotive released so far. It is splendid. Thank you Ricksan. I can give it rating of 95 out of 100 points.
Here, I would like to write several comments.1. It is neither "class 8600" nor "class C50" . It is "class 8620".Class 8600 is another type of engine with wheel arrangement of Pacific.
Ministry of Railway (at that time) purchased 672 of class 8620 engines since 1914.
Manifacturing of class 8620 ended in 1929. Then, MOR started purchase of class C50 from 1929 instead of class 8620. The class C50 is a re-designed version of class 8620 and was a little weightier and had higher steam pressure. MOR got 158 of class C50s in total. These 158 were not included in 672.
Numbering of class 8620 was complicated because the most of numbers had been assigned already to other classes. Only from 8620 to 8699 could be assigned to this locomotive. This was a reason to adopt new numbering scheme from "C50".8620, 8621,......., 8699,
18620, 18621,......., 18699,
.....................................,
88620, 88621,......, 88666(last number)2. Shape of smoke box doorThere were no small radial hardwares arround the door. They are specific in locomotive in America and not applied in locomotives of Japanese made. I have deleted them from the 58653. 3. There would be no yellow line on side of cab and tender in Japanese main line steam engines. Even if there might be a special painting decoration in case of special occasion. it is not standard painting.

4. Flat Car is not Mo1000, but Chi1000.

"Mo" means electric motorcar (Mo for motorcar). It shoud be "Chi" for flat car.

5. Wagon is not Wamn2000, but Wa12000 of Chichibu Railway.

There is marking of Wa12000 in Japanese character with a emblem of Chichibu Railway (a private railway). "Wa" came from wagon.
There were Wamu2000 in JNR. There was no "Wamn".

6. There were no green lamps on end plate as far as I know.

Two red lamps or red disc were attached only to the rear end of train.
As far as speaking Japanese trains from 1940s to 1960s, I do not know green lamps in front.------------------------------------------------------------------------------The class 8620s were widely used to light express, commuter, freighter and shunting in almost all of Japan. They were very familier locomotive in my boyhood days. It was said that "You can see no rails on which no "86" is running" (translation from Japanese). They had been replaced to Diesel locomotives by the early 1970s.

Number plates were made basically from gun metal. But most of plates had been took off to be re-used to make arms and changed to painting during World-War II. Number on rear side of tender is representing it.Thank you againAkiraP.S. Please feel free to contact me if you have any question on Japanese railway or Japanese language.

very interesting notes.
I'll like to know if there is a site about the jap locos ( in english), and if you are able to provide this forum with a detailed table of performance to improve the unrealistic eng file.
Tks
Ciao
