When I have a problem with TSM, I grind it out ( in the Immortal words of Captain Bazza " Don't let the computer Win!" )and about 3:20 in the a.m. is when everything looks fine to me.....
First thing I'd do is move that chair over to the potbelly stove - especially if Ron Paludan's snow is around the next bend....
I'm looking forward to this.

Jan-13-02, 06:57 AM (EST) 5. "RE: What Junior found in the backwoods ..." >How long does something like that take to make? For a model this size:> Exterior texture and model - 1 evening (5-6 hours), the texture took longer than the model.
> Interior texture and model - 1 evening plus one morning (over 8 hours), the texture was a lot quicker than the model as a lot of it was rehashed from the exterior.Strangely, the interior model actually uses far less polys than the exterior - Caboose model - 1054 polys ... partially because of the lame way I decided to build the bogies - piece for piece, unlike the way I usually do it which is to build it up with textures, but I wanted the bogie to "feel" heavier than the body as the body sits relatively high and the bogies are such an outstanding part of the model.Cabin Model - 504 polys only ... could have gone for a lot more "clutter", especially since it's really an "on-demand only" model. However, its got enough to give a good feel of what it may have been like to be in a real one - as my Lecturer in college kept telling me, the real "art" is in knowing when to stop ... In a way, I learnt a lot from the last two virtual interiors that I did (for the 25T Hustler and the 60T Box Cab). In case anyone is interested the 2 most important are:< 1 > Use BIG textures
< 2 > To save on polys, build the interior as a seperate entity - this way it's only loaded on demand ie. key press 5.Personally, I prefer the virtual interiors to the standard game cabviews, primarily because:
< 1 > They are less of an eye strain on long hauls. For example, if you spend 2 (real) hours driving a train on the Marias Pass, it really helps to look into the "distance" once in awhile. Strangely, gradually changing your view and looking to either the left or right really helps (and works too).
< 2 > Being able to move your view around your "enviroment" makes the experience more real, even if you are using a low graphics resolution setting. After awhile, you really feel like you are really in the vehicle, not just driving a sim.
< 3 > The virtual cab is bright when it's bright and darkens as night falls. I prefer this effect to the standard cab views which are always bright, which on top of being somewhat unrealistic, the sharp bright/dark contrast hurts the eyes after awhile.
< 4 > They are fun to make.
