Jan-11-02, 05:39 AM (EST) "Multi heading your trains" Can any one answer this query ?Does multi heading your locos or at least adding helpers in to the train effect your pulling power. My favorate at the moment is running either a AB Santa Fe F7 with a A unit on the tail with 15-20 ESE passenger cars or a 45 coal car 5 head BN/SF/BNSF mix of the TA SD70's etc. As you move away from the head unit you just get the "engine idle" sound. Is there also any one who misses the "clickerty clack" on the rails or are you all happy with that annoying sqeak that carrages make ? This is essentially right over a broad range of locomotive types, based on tests I have run on many different lashups. You cannot however have a very weak locomotive as the lead unit and a SD80Mac as the second unit and have it work properly. I tried to emulate a control cab for Cameron's GP30 by using just 0.1 watt for power and a fraction of a gram of MTE and CTE. This did not work at all. In general, the program seems to slightly work better if the lead locomotive is the strongest. That said, even a GP7 followed by a SD80Mac (not a likely mix) is not far off the theoretical performance.

Jan-12-02, 03:32 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Multi heading your trains" there is one thing though, use different locos (using the diesels for example), to recreate real railroading. Ive made a consist with 2 dash 9's, a GP-38, and an sd40 at the end of 35 mixed cars. But its too hard to control with only one or 2 cars and several locos. Jan-12-02, 05:07 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Multi heading your trains" Somewhere I read only multiple locos of the same type as the lead will have an effect. Multiple locos will make a difference to the pulling power but they must all be the same type.I have never tested this though however I do know multiple locos the same 'do' work. Jan-12-02, 07:12 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Multi heading your trains" In tweaking the Selkirk file I use, I put an SW600 in front of the Selkirk, and the Selkirk definitely was working and appeared to be contributing the major share of the work, as it should. I tested it with and without this setup. It was consistent.

Jan-13-02, 00:30 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Multi heading your trains" I have 6 of the SD70's from TA on a 137 car coal train. The mix is 3 SD70 macs and 3 SD 75's. I know it works as most have said the do put power to the rail.I have a steam triple header also.I think some of the steamers dont provide the power they should but oh well nothing ever goes right sometimes .
