Jun-30-01, 12:38 PM (EST) "Is MS/KUJU Really Reading(Listening)????" I have made a new cab and the display really SUCKS!! Why? We can only makeace on a file 512X512. When the cab gets streched to 640X480 or 1024X768 it really looks terrible no matter how good it looks in the graphic program. They haved proved they have the utility to do it, why won't they provide it to us?? There are some really talented people building new locomotives and it sure would be nice to make new cabs for them. If someone knows a workaround please pass it on.Really frustrated and provoked...Jim

Here is a direct quote from the tech docs that come with Train Sim."All cab panels in train must be authored in two resolutions, 640 by 480 pixels AND 1024 by 768 pixels. This means that when the screen resolution is changed on the options screen, the cab panel does not become overly stretched."To me this means the TGA files must be at this size before running them through makeace. I wish they would post the makeace version they used for a download. I'll bet you would see new cabs a flyin then.Thanks,

It's really ruff, but like I said it was just a trial run. The setting I used where 1024x768 with a 300dpi. I also made one 640x480 using a 150 dpi. They both seem to work out just fine. If you look at the names of the files in MSTS you will notice that there are two files for the base cab. i.e... dash9frnt.ace (I'm assuming this is the 640x480 version & dash9frnt1024.ace which would naturally be the 1024x768 version. Looks like we both are toying with the same panel. The streching really seems to exagerate the jaggies around the windshield. In PSP they are really smooth in their proper sizes. I did one in 640x and 1024x but still had to resize to 512x512 to make an ace file. Did you figure a way around that one? There is a lot of work to do(playing) for me on this panel, bleed through, and such.Jim

Hello Jim,If you taker a look at most of the panels in TS you'll notice that they all seem to have a dark "seal" or a deep shadow effect to them. I think this is how MS/Kuju got around the same problem. They're either on vacation or they just like ignoring us. Microsoft never answers about anything unless you pay them to. Last time I tried to get tech support on a major Windiows problem I simply got automated responses. I realize there are a lot of fools with cheap PCs who need to know what a double-click is, but give me a break. They're probably just going for daily swims in our money.
From watching the Homeworld editing boards, I know that Sierra/Relic responded to quite a few requests, even though they considered that game "nearly impossible" to change. Last I checked, there were something like 30 mods and tc's under development. If Microsoft or Kuju wants any sort of longevity or word-of-mouth sales down the line, I suggest they follow the Example set by Sierra (who STILL have a major Half-Life fan base). Providing tools with big disclaimers for the morons is fine and dandy; but if you show that you are willing to help the people who know what they're doing, you add longevity to the game.Rant over. And people disecting Trainz screengrabs to make new cabviews as a desperate attempt isn't good press either unless you're Auran ! Actually you guys have proven that it can be done with the 512X512 Limit as long as you work around it.
Good Job !BTW white borders usually have something to do with Pre-Multiplied Alpha Chanels ! Hope that Helps !? Unless it's a scaleing issue, in which case you have to re-mask after you scale or increase selection around scale and re make mask !
