Jan-05-02, 00:20 AM (EST) "What About the Western US Locomotives" As just a 5 day newbie, I'm still trying to figure all this out. At first I thought that MS made all the upgrades. But it seems we all can do this. One question, in looking over list of available trains it seems that Western US doesn't have too much. Is anybody working on the Southern Pacific Cab Forward 4-8-8-2 that went over the Sierra. What about the Union Pacific Big Boy out of Cheyenne WY. There is another steam locomotive out of Portland, I can't remember that name, but nicely painted. To do this correctly, does one need to record bells and horns, etc. from and an operating engine. The Cab Forward engine is not operating these days(it's at the Railroad museum in Sacramento CA), but the other 2 are running once in awhile. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-05-02, 01:08 AM (EST) 1. "RE: What About the Western US Locomotives" Hi
I think if you search the file library, you'll find quite a bit.
If you like western steam, I recently repainted TrainArtisan's 4-8-2 mountain in Denver & Rio Grande Western, UP, and ATSF. Almost every steam loco that's been made, I've repainted in D&RGW. If you want to go way back to the old west, I also repainted the 4-4-0 General as Eureka & Palisade #4, and as Central Pacific Jupiter. If you like diesels, there's no shortage of western stuff there. You can find lots of UP, ATSF, D&RGW, WP, GN and SP diesels. As for big articulateds, like Big Boy, Challenger, etc., they haven't been done yet. There are people working on them, but they are a challenge as they tend to have high polygon counts and complex animations. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-05-02, 06:02 AM (EST) 2. "RE: What About the Western US Locomotives" There is a cab forward on the way. Eventually I have some western steam projects I would like to do, such as an SP MT-5, and maybe a UP 4-12-2. In terms of true western steam there is a SP 4-6-2, and there is a USRA mikado with UP, GN, & DRGW tenders available amongst others. The 4-8-2 that was just released is a USRA design and the farthest west the USRA mountains came was Missouri Pacific. I bought TSM recently and I'm now building for myself what I allways wanted others to build. I would no longer be satisfied with a Hariman Consolidation or a USRA Mountain painted for Pennsylvania. My best suggestion is to buy a copy of TSM(or another 3d modeling program) and learn to make your own locomotives. The voice of insanity in a seemingly normal world. Jan-06-02, 09:39 AM (EST) 6. "RE: What About the Western US Locomotives" The Daylight Express coaches are alreay avaliable - I think they must be in the file library, they are repaints of the Swedish Coaches. And until someone does a Daylight locomotive, you can get an Alco PA in that livery.Message Areas - "What About the Western US Locomotives" – image 7
