Jan-02-02, 01:38 PM (EST) 5. "RE: colors for lights" Georgi,Its not rude, its a suggestion!! A very appropriate one as well. I went looking for stuff last night using the search feature for a couple things and found EVERYTHING I needed to know within a matter of seconds ( K maybe minutes )Anyhow if this person now knows about the "Search" feature it may save him from making 30 more " How do I do this posts "For the record you can find out light codes within Paint Shop Pro. I would imagine Photoshop as well. Also, the TechDocs located on the MSTS disk # 1 has an explanation to light colour and alphas to lights as well.Tim Kent

>Winnipeg Canada aren't the light docs some of the tech docs that can only be read with the latest and greatest version of ms word, and if you don't have it your out of luck. there is a downloadable hunk of ms code that will allow us poor souls who don't have ms word to let us read them, but of course it is 4 or 5 meg. last summer i was working on lights and finally had to have someone convert the two light docs to a text file and email them to me. spent several days trying to figure out the colour positions through trial and error. Jan-02-02, 10:26 PM (EST) 11. "RE: colors for lights" Actually Yes and NO.I tried to open it and failed ( Yes you need MS Word ), BUT I opened it with a basic html converter and it opened for me. Of course it was all one entire long sentence, so breaking it down took a bit of time, BUT you can get at those Tech Docs.Tim Kent

Jan-02-02, 12:39 PM (EST) 4. "RE: colors for lights" Thank you to "DNALOT" and "GEORGI55" for the 2 websites for the color codes. That was alot easier than searching thru the threads. That's what this site is all about, people helping other people. If someone doesn't have an answer then they don't need to post a reply, right Captain Bazza. Jan-02-02, 01:49 PM (EST) 6. "RE: colors for lights" Hey,I originally had every intention of coming in this post to give you a hand, but Georgi sort of sent me the wrong way on this matter. Also if you have been around these forums for a while ( judging by your amount of posts you havn't ) you would understand Bazza'a answer.I myself have probably seen the question you just asked 4 or 5 times now between this site and the MSN Train-Sim site and I try to post answers to as many as I can. I understand that people are new to this sim and there will always be new people joining these forums, BUT trust me 6 months down the road when you've seen the question you just asked posted by 5 more people and you know FOR SURE that the answers are available in the archives, I guarantee you will not post out a long and drawn out answer. You'll say " Do a search !! "Just some info for you and GeorgiGood luck with the lighting and if you do need any help with it I will be more than glad to help out ( I have lighting done on quite a number of the Diesel units in the download section )Cya laterTim Kent

Jan-02-02, 03:18 PM (EST) 7. "RE: colors for lights" For all of your information, I did do a search. I put in color codes for lights, and also tried lights color codes. Maybe I worded it wrong. I have been a member of this site since July and enjoy it very much. No, I don't post alot. I find many things out just by reading. There are many things I'm not sure about on MSTS is why I don't post replys a lot. Most of the time I do find what I'm looking for but this one time I couldn't is why I put the question out there. I didn't realize a simple question was going to turn into such a discussion topic. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-02-02, 08:44 PM (EST) 9. "RE: colors for lights" Hang in there .... I've searched and searched sometimes for stuff I know I read and just can't find the right combination of keywords to get it back!By the way, the first two hex codes of the string of eight are for luminosity ... you'll need it too. The others are red, green and blue.Believe it or not, plain old MS Paint can get you started. Open Paint, click on Colors, Edit Colors, Define Custom Colors and you'll get an expanded palette.Click on a color you like in the "rainbow" box. It shows up in the little box in the lower left. Fiddle with the slider to the right and watch the Lum number change. The Red, Green Blue values are also listed. Unfortunately, all four are in 0-256, and you want them in hex code (ff for example). For that you need a hex converter. I use one of my scientific calculators, but I suspect there is an internet converter out there somewhere. I'll look this weekend.Appendix B of the lighting tech docs also covers hexadecimal numbers in a brief way.krswen Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-02-02, 10:50 PM (EST) 12. "RE: colors for lights" LAST EDITED ON Jan-02-02 AT 10:52 PM (EST)Didn't wait for the weekend .....While you've still got your MS Paint window open, you can call up this site (assuming you're on the net too), enter the binary numbers and compare the two color patches to be sure they are the same:http://www.univox.com/rgb/voxrgb.cgi
It only converts the RGB. To get the Lum value, just type it in place of the red, resubmit, ignore the new color patch and read the first two hex values (hope this makes sense).krswen Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Just use the Windows calculator: Click View | ScientificClick on "Dec" radio button enter the number, click on "Hex" radio button and it's instantly converted.

Jan-03-02, 05:34 AM (EST) 14. "RE: colors for lights" I use Paint Shop Pro 7 to find the codes. This way I can get any colour. Just click on one of the two colour boxes and find the colour you want and below it shoul give you the code. Use this code with two numbers in front of it for the brightness eg. FF = bright and 80 = dim. I found a creamy colour for the lights Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
