Dec-31-01, 09:25 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Finally E-8 version uploaded !" I'm a retired engineer for the B&M. We had several E-8's on our road in the 50's and early 60's. Can skins be made with our minuteman colors? They were maron with yellow stripes and a minuteman logo on the nose. Sorry I don't have any pics. I also use to run this type of loco on the Amtrak Montreal train in the 70's from Springfield, Mass. to White River Jct. Vermont. The E-8's on this train were Amtrak Locos. The units were all black with the Amtrak Logo painted on them. These were a nice smooth riding loco when we had them.BTW! Nice job on those pics. Keep up the good work. the.whiz@verizon.net Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

CP only had 3 of these, one was wrecked (#1801, wrecked December 28, 1968 at Lachevrotiere,PQ and retired.), #1800 became VIA 1898 and #1802 became VIA 1899..
So yep.. VIA skins will work...cheers

Jan-01-02, 01:25 AM (EST) 18. "RE: Finally E-8 version uploaded !" Hate to be a downer, but I think the E8 UP engine needs to go back into the workshed....These two are E9s
These two are E8s
If you want some help I can point out the different things that would need to be fixed up to match the UP engine better...the SF version is rather close to the real thing, from what I have seen anyway. Nice work none the less.

Jan-01-02, 07:33 PM (EST) 22. "RE: Finally E-8 version uploaded !" Well the E8s and E9s are pretty much the same on the outside so much so you couldn't tell the difference. The way you can tell though is by the little plate on the side of the locomotive that says "e9" which you can clearly see on the picture of the 951 :pOf course there is other stuff that gives it away, like the ditch lights (as shown on the UP E9... only saw those before on UP E9s) the gumball machine shaped light ontop of the cab which seem to be commen on the E9s I've seen. Also for the UP engine here. We can see the E8s had dual lights and the E9s only one. Also look at the numberboards, the kind on the SF, that is their own thing I think because I haven't seen it on other E8s or E9s, not tell I came across this thread anyway or the earlier thread you posted.... the kind shown in most of the pictures is more commen.Well that is all I can think of at the current time. have more questions ask away, I've been looking at E8s and E9s for the last couple of months and reading up a lot on them so I know some stuff about them, I'm sure others could tell you more though, but I just happend to get here first.

Jan-02-02, 10:51 AM (EST) 29. "RE: Finally E-8 version uploaded !" Jens-Chris,IIRC, the only consistent difference between the carbody of an E9 and that of an E8 involved a gasket around the upper headlight position. (which is virtually impossible to see in MSTS!)That being said, there were a variety of railroad-specific differences between the two, but the differences could apply to either E8s or E9s depending on the railroad involved. The only way to be certain is to look at a picture of the locomotive in question and that would assume that things hadn't been changed or moved by the railroad shop forces.All-in-all, I would really worry about it. Just turn these great units over to us and get to work on those passenger cars! Henry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

some of thier E-8's looked good..
and some are best left far, far away from any skinning attempt
