Dec-26-01, 05:47 AM (EST) "Anyone designed a model with 6000+ polys?" I've not tested this myself but there seems to be a limit of 6000 polygons in a model in MSTS. Apparently you'll get an error message and refusal to load if more.Have anyone gone beyond 6000 polys yet and still successfully imported it to the game?My latest X10/X14 is around 5500 for a single model and it's the most I've used so far.

Dec-26-01, 06:48 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Anyone designed a model with 6000+ polys?" Hello Actually i've got model with more than 10000 polys , and it's working......I've divided model to parts let's say :
_ROOF
_FRONT
_BACK they has no more than 3000 polys
and linked them to MAIN it has converted and it goes in MsTSMine question , how to optimize number of polys in the model , or which values of parameters should be in optimalization tool to get right effect ???THXKakish Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-26-01, 10:19 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Anyone designed a model with 6000+ polys?" LAST EDITED ON Dec-26-01 AT 10:23 AM (EST)LAST EDITED ON Dec-26-01 AT 10:20 AM (EST)That's great! I'll try that in the next project. With the 6000 limit on just each mesh then there's no (known) upper poly limit in a loco.If you mean the optimize modifier in 3ds I don't know. I've only tried it once but it didn't do much better without also generating "errors" and irregularities in the mesh.I think the best optimization is done by hand and planning ahead. Always remove polys not seen outside the loco and use textures/transparancies instead of 3D when possible. It takes time but give the best results in my experience. Dec-26-01, 12:27 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Anyone designed a model with 6000+ polys?" Hi,All my locos are above 6000 polys and they load fine, the biggest is 7500 for the SNCF BB12000, your problem is probably due to all the 6000 polys being in one part, try breaking it down to more parts like roof, body, ends etc. Beware also that there is a limit to the number of parts that can be animated, at the moment it looks like a limit of 10 parts for bogies, each part can have a around 5000-6000 polys so its stil quite detailed.RegardsMichael Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-26-01, 11:20 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Anyone designed a model with 6000+ polys?" I have a model I'm trying to get into the game. It's divided into 25 linked parts for a total of 3677 polygons, 7595 after Train sim modeler converts it and there's still more to do. MSTS does not accept the loco in it's present state. It will only accept the model up to around 6000 polys, with most of the 'major' detail removed, I'm talking Cab, Body, Bogies etc. Something is wrong here, it's not that big in polycount. An allowance of 6000 polys per part is not correct in this case neither is the idea of dividing it into parts.I just wish I could work it out.
