Dec-23-01, 07:27 PM (EST) "No more error msg (uid 200000), what a feeling." Hi all,
just uploaded a new German switcher, as promised to satisfy my friends from Eastern part of Germany. This time it´s the black livery (1945 - 1970) of the Reichsbahn in the former German Democratic Republic. It´s by far more than just a repaint, I applied now a new hierarchy management in my 3D Canvas Pro to add more details as discribed by Captain Bazza and Marc from 3D Trains somewhere down the line in this forum. This helped me to overcome the restrictions I encountered with my last model and the frequent error messages of MSTS (uid 200000). "Don´t let the computer win" I love this phrase, Captain and I integrated as well an engineer in the little switcher. If you think he looks like me, you are right, I am just curious to watch with my own virtual eyes on which routes you are using the Köf. It´s now uploaded and will show up soon in the download area. Have fun with it.

Dec-23-01, 10:19 PM (EST) 1. "RE: No more error msg (uid 200000), what a feeling." BeeKay, I love unusual and eccentric locos. Is the engineer indicating a right turn into the next siding/spur Occasionally using that hierarachy link scheme won't help. I try to get rid of as many 'hidden faces' as I can find too, and even that doesn't always prevent the dreaded 'UID200000 can't add car to world' error message. A model may be processed okay by conv3ds and still cause the error message when you attempt to use it up in the sim. Each loco or model built adds to your knowledge base. Some problems occur for no apparent reason and when you apply the usual fixes they don't work. I've had a loco with 8,000 polys, with extra linked objects, work okay, then another loco with 6,000 polys and same scheme doesn't. I also have a nice UK Jinty loco standing forlornly in the engine shed, it processed okay but MSTS doesn't want to know it.So far during my experiments with hi detail/poly models they have not appeared to have had a great effect on FPS, but excessive use of 'out of sight' scenery objects, such as trees, does have a dramatic effect. Dec-24-01, 03:29 AM (EST) 2. "RE: No more error msg (uid 200000), what a feeling." I'm also having this problem with a new loco from TSM. Firstly it's graphic doesn't show up in preview window of the the consist editor, a sure sign the 'can't add car to world' error will occur.I've added textures and sometimes it works, then added detail and it doesn't work, then re-applied textures and it does work, then worked on it again and it doesn't work. Who knows! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Hope we will see the other Köf type some time.Could you give the link to the Spantenwagen behind the Köf? I have downloaded them by a link from www.simrail.de, but that link is gone now.Merry Christmas,Dick van den Hoven Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-24-01, 06:58 AM (EST) 4. "RE: No more error msg (uid 200000), what a feeling." Hi Captain et al,
I am pretty sure that the proposed hierarchy-management isn´t a solution ad infinitum in detailing, however it gave me the air to breath again after I reached a certain level of detailing the "main" body of the little switcher. I prefer 3D details over boxes with photo stickers. I was always attaching more and more details in "merging" them onto the main body in 3D Canvas. I think that´s what newbies do. It was a nightmare to step back to a previous model which was integrating correctly into MSTS, with the point/faces tool removing exessive details. Then I got this brilliant idea of searching the forum with the keyword "20000" and your conversation with Marc from 3DTrains in October popped up. That was convincing and I have redone many parts of the Köf afterwards. I even integrated a second virtual person at the Köf handrails as a switching helper without problems, I only removed it for artistic, esthetic reasons.

Message Areas - "No more error msg (uid 200000), what a feeling." – image 3This forum here is such a great place to learn and I only can recommend to use the search functionality extensively whenever you have a problem. There were always bright guys before you to solve a problem and their findings points at least in the right direction. BTW, I loved very much during train or car riding to strech my hand out of the window and feel the air moving it up and down. That´s what I had in mind modeling the engineer Don´t use him more than one hour in snow and ice! Or offer him a warm drink in the next station.
I will stop now, before I start nattering. Captain thanks a lot for your hints, they keep me going and striving for more and better models to come.
Dick, sorry I forgot to mention it, the Spantenwagen is a model by Hans Schobesberger from Austria and you can download it in many German sites, I think I got it from www.thetrain.de or from www.tsworld.de.
Merry Christmas
