Dec-23-01, 02:02 PM (EST) "Help with the front coupler bug from a designer please" Hi all. I need one of you designers to do me a favor. I need you to make me a copy of a loco that you created but this time in the 3d design tool you use I need you to change the front coupler. I need you to put it on backwards. yes thats right backwards. then send me the engine and I'll test it with a few to see if my ideas are correct. I only need one of you so please post your reply here and e-mail me at TOPDOG5184@pikeonline.net doesn't have to be a perfect model nor perfect textures. this is just to test a theory I have. don't change anything but putiing the coupler on backwards on the locomotive itself. This is important not just to me but to all the users of MSTS. I have a pic here that has the coupler on it. I just want you to turn it around thats all. do not make the knuckle to face the right way as I want it to be completely backwards. If my theory works you will be greatly appreciated and credited for your participation in this obstical I am trying to overcome. thank you very much in advance. It has nothing to do with the physics of the locomotive, that's all in the .eng file. Putting the front coupler backwards on the shape is not going to change anything in regards to how it runs.I hope you find the fix you are looking for. I hate to say I think it has to do with how the code for the sim was written. Until that's corrected with a patch I believe we are stuck with this problem.Conn

"RE: Help with the front coupler bug from a designer please" I can send you an incomplete GP30 made in TSM if you wish, but I'm not sure how the coupler positioning on the 3D model is going to make a difference. The model I've been working on has no couplers at all. Yet without couplers I can pull a train. In addition, the variety of models that have appeared have varying coupler heights. In some examples they don't even match at all but still work as if they were a perfect match.Stew Clark Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-23-01, 03:10 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Help with the front coupler bug from a designer please" Thanks Stew. that would be great. I'm going in the direction of maybe the sim is seeing the coupler as being backwards. I don't know why I thought of that but I want to try any and all possiblities before going into the program itself and hacking things. Dec-23-01, 04:17 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Help with the front coupler bug from a designer please" If this was the case the front coupler would not work on freight cars either, but it does. I can assure you the answer does not lie in the shape file. The couplers are stictly for appearance purposes only.Conn Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Help with the front coupler bug from a designer please" LAST EDITED ON Dec-23-01 AT 05:07 PM (EST)that may be true but I want to eliminate all possibilities in the hopes that maybe something will work and I won't have to change the program. Dec-23-01, 05:49 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Help with the front coupler bug from a designer please" I can assure you that the 3D-model has absolutely nothing to do with this problem. I can make a simple box with no couplers, no wheels or anything else and make it work like a locomotive simply by using an eng-file by the same name. The 3D-model is for looks only, it has no function whatsoever beyond that. Dec-23-01, 06:42 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Help with the front coupler bug from a designer please" Well, I don't know much about this, but I do believe that these guys are right. What with all the screen shots I've seen of locos with US style knuckles hauling European stock with hook and buffer couplers around! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-23-01, 08:55 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Help with the front coupler bug from a designer please" The wagon that comes with TSM has no couplers, and when I first created the tutorial model I didn't realize that it had no couplers.Works just fine, but looks a bit strange. Like everyone else has said, the .s and .sd file has nothing to do with the coupling (except perhaps by making the bounding box too long).Your answer must lie within the .eng/.wag file or the sim itself.
