Dec-21-01, 02:05 AM (EST) "A question of proper crediting of anothers work." Hey EveryoneWhat is the proper procedure or protocol for crediting another persons work? As most of you know, I have been working on many special effects for the Train Sim. Such as lighting and other effects for steam engines, cab control car driver file with modified sound files and a default gp38 cabview and modified and added lights, also modified lights for the pusher diesels, smoking caboose with light mods and effects, mechanical reefer power plant sound, modified snow plows with light sphere for operation in front of a locomotive, still working on steam generator and steam leak effect for passenger cars, and a few other ideas. All of this stuff has modified wag or engine files from default files. I understand the crediting in the readme file. Also is it proper to credit in the file_id.diz. So is it proper to get the developers permission only or the developer and skinner of the model first before releasing the project? Also is it a good idea to send a sample of the work to the developer and/or skinner of the models before release? It seems to me that it is just plain polite to get permission first. What are the developers or skinners thoughts on this?ThanksChuck Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I have noticed that some authors place their credits in the readme file (which helps) then a place to put your name for repaints and such. My suggestion to all would be "when in dought... ASK!!"By the way Chuck, i always have appreciated the fine work you do Nick

Dec-21-01, 09:50 AM (EST) 3. "RE: A question of proper crediting of anothers work." What I do is include the original readme's in the folders for where the engines are kept. If I can, I keep all the original files there too. I have taken out the ace files to keep the final install size down if the ace is pretty large. I pretty much ask permission too. Since I mostly do routes I make an accompanying pdf to give credit to the contributing authors since a route is pretty comprehensive and some people's efforts would go unnoticed for the complexity of the route. It's alot of extra effort but the end product looks more professional if you ask me.Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Hey Johan>which Default GP38 Cabview did you do?There is only 1 default GP38 cabview that I used, it comes with the default GP38 that comes with the Sim. I am waiting for that very kind and very artistic Sammy Spade to hopefully pop a cab control car cabview out soon.Chuck

Dec-21-01, 11:41 PM (EST) 8. "RE: A question of proper crediting of anothers work." Hey Chuck
This is what I do with my skins. I always credit the modeller in both my file_id.diz and my readme. I also give credit to anyone who assisted me with repaint, for example if someone helps me with a problem I'm having, like an alignment or alpha channel problem. I think it's only right to credit someone who helps you. Grizzly Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
