Dec-17-01, 00:55 AM (EST) "4-4-0 General: When? (please, please say soon) " I saw in a post a while back someone had just finished a 4-4-0 painted as the General. Is it available anywhere yet? I've been wanting a 4-4-0 for long time! There could be some great repaints too, Jupiter, 119, and my personal favorite, Eureka & Palisade #4, the finest looking restored 4-4-0 out there. (please, please say soon) " Hi Grizzly. seeing as I have the 119 for my HO layout there is one problem with it. you would have to do more then a repaint as it had a tall skinny smokestake and not the rouded at the top ash catch types. Though I too would love to see a 4-4-0 in MSTS and yeah when are they going to be released? I created an activity on the P.O.&N. v4 with the mogul coaches and just waiting for those beauties to be released so I can finish it up and release it to you all. a little hint as to what it is. the year is 1890 and you have to save your train from a "great train robbery". and there will also be a version that doesn't have thew robbery but a difficult task to perform. Dec-18-01, 05:37 AM (EST) 2. "RE: 4-4-0 General: When? (please, please say soon) " LAST EDITED ON Dec-18-01 AT 05:55 AM (EST)The General. Yippie!!!!
I've started working on the route The General ran on. I'm using DEM data to make it as realistic as I can. I have the terrain from Acworth to just north of Emerson, so far. (This route runs, almost, through my backyard. Without any trees, you can see my house from the track.)
The only problem is, back in the '40's (I believe it was the early '40's), the track was rerouted to make way for Lake Allatoona. The data I have is post-'40's. You can see the original track bed, as well as the new track bed. In order to recreate the original route, a little terrain modification is in order.
I have some Civil War maps of the area that show the location of the track, at that time.
Comparing the old and the new, it looks like the lake won't be too much of a problem to work around.
I started laying track near the lake, but wasn't happy with the placement, so I'm basically starting over.
I'm new to this stuff, so it might take me awhile to finish.
Maybe I'll have enough built to run The General when it comes out.
Here's a screenshot of the area at the lake.Message Areas - "4-4-0 General: When? (please, please say soon) " – image 2 Still needs some work.
Good luck.

Dec-20-01, 12:51 PM (EST) 5. "RE: 4-4-0 General: When? (please, please say soon) " It isn't any route yet, it's the working copy of Port Ogden & Northern version 5. Version 4 is available in the file library, but that bridge ain't on version 4, I'm still working on custom textures. I hate cartoon graphics. Message Areas - "4-4-0 General: When? Unfortunately the US2Medicine bridge uses the same textures as the US2Trestle2 in the first pic. Fortunately, there isn't much you can do to the US2Medicine bridge to make it any uglier, and I think this actually improves it, in spite of the odd texture mapping. I'm also screwing around with trying to make better looking track textures;Message Areas - "4-4-0 General: When? (please, please say soon) " – image 5
All the other cars and engines are part of John Fowlis' 1883 Pioneer trainset, also available in the file library. They go well with the General, don't you think? Now all we need is for somebody to model Fuller and Andrews, and make some covered bridges. You ain't gettin' it back this time, Johnny Reb, I'm gonna repaint it for the PO&N!On the run,

I'm currently painting the Pioneer coaches that came in that set to the Union Pacific yellow and gray coaches with red lettering. look for them soon. I'd upload a pic but I don't have any way to get it to 100k. sorry but look at the pic that Grizzly put up at the top of this post. its going to look very similar. they're 80% complete. I'm doing the coaches, baggage, and caboose cars. Craig Shortino
