Nov-27-01, 11:58 AM (EST) "Anybody on for a challenge?" LAST EDITED ON Nov-27-01 AT 11:59 AM (EST)Ok, so this is not really MSTS related, but I thought this would be the place to ask. :=3I'm part of a multi-author space sci-fi group and I'm looking for someone to do a 3d version of my ship. :=3I've drawn plans to scale and would love to see it done up. I also have done 2D renderings of it and here's one of the shots:Message Areas - "Anybody on for a challenge?" – image 1Word of warning though, this ship is HUGE!!. 900 feet long, 425 feet wide and about 225 feet tall. :=/Of course if someone would do it and then convert it for use in MSTS ... :=3 Can someone say "Invaders From Outer Space"?Let me know, ok?--

Nov-28-01, 05:25 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Anybody on for a challenge?" LAST EDITED ON Nov-28-01 AT 05:30 AM (EST)Hey I think I could do that, have you seen my other efforts under the thread "trains and boats and planes" I managed to get an 0-4-0, then a cow, then a ufo and finally a learjet into the air over the hakone route so a flying city block like that would be fun, I'm new to 3d modelling but the shape doesn't look too complex. Perhaps I'll start with a Borg cube for practice.
as for the .eng files to get it into train sim i've already done that. You'll have trouble getting it through tunnels though! Terry"Where are the plans?" ~ Darth Vader to Princess Leiasend them to terry@cyberstorm.co.uk Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-28-01, 07:42 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Anybody on for a challenge?" Ok, Cyber. You're on. :=3I will need to know in what format you want the plans. I can send them in a cadd format, I use Autosketch. Of course if you want .jpeg or .gif files, that can be done also. :=3I won't send you the complete set of all 18 deck plans, as the total files size has exceeded 4meg, and I don't know how well it'll compress. As far as it going down the "tracks", I'll set it up so it runs about 100 meters in the air on the Tokoyo - Hakone route. Poor Tokoyo gets it again. Thankfully this is a friendly visitor. :=3--

Nov-28-01, 10:23 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Anybody on for a challenge?" Ok I dont have autocad so if you can send me pictures in jpg or gif format of the front, back, side, top, and bottom views I'm sure I'll get the gist of it. also any designs like your lion symbol and any decal details would be usefull for texturing. It might be an idea for you to find out more about camera views as I think most of the standard cameras may end up inside the ship, or only seeing the underside. Unless you put it in as an AI train. Nov-28-01, 07:49 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Anybody on for a challenge?" Borg cube huh? I wonder if rich garber has read this thread yet cause you just gave me a great idea for a East Metro RR activity. A Borg cube pierces the clouds and hovers directly over smallville (casting a shadow over the town like in "independence day"). A squadron of flying cows is sent to destroy the cube but are instead reduced to coldcuts by the borg's cutting beams. Your(the engineer) job is to transport as many citizens out of smallville as you can with your East Metro commuter consist (ignoring all speedlimits as best you can!) until Rich's exgirlfriend (supergirl,...aka sniper's new love interest)can destroy the Borg cube!(freeing locutus..er..ahhh..... patrick stewart from even more typecasting). Subsequent activities will include bringing in whole trains of empty scrap gondolas and taking out the loads to local Duranium mills....did I say Duranium mills?Beam me outta here!!!Longhaired(sleep-deprived)wizard Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>True, but this will be in the atomsphere. I don't want any complaints, so better than Mach 1 is out, but sub-sonic, oh let say 600mph, would be okay. Now for the sound itself. Being It uses Ion engines, and particle reactant thrusters, ie: rockets, to manuever in tight quarters, I would think something like 6 torandos all at once would be about right. :=3Just imagine you start the "Lion's Den" at Philly as an AI train, by the time you got to New Carrolton, you would see it and it would only be in Baltimore. :=3I would make it so that the axis was about 100 meters above the track. :=3I'm packaging up everything in a "zip" file to send out to you Cyber. Should be on its way later tonight.

Dec-09-01, 06:04 PM (EST) 21. "RE: Anybody on for a challenge?" Message Areas - "Anybody on for a challenge?" – image 13 The Borg are attracted to any new superior races or technology, once they detect a new interesting target they send a Borg cube to assimilate the tecnology and convert any beings they come across into Borg Drones all linked to a common 'hive' mind absorbing technological improvements and racial distinctiveness into their 'Collective'. Obviously since the 'Lions Den' was a superior craft it was inevitable that a borg cube would be dispatched, unfortunately the original 'Lions Den' was taken aboard the cube within minutes and dissected for its technology and unfortunately so were the crew, this means the Borg will have used their collective conscience of billions of minds to work out defences against the Lionking within milliseconds, so a new improved version will have to be constructed this week. Wonder what Paramount would say. :=/ )If I do release the LD it will be made clear that I hold the copyrights on the name, as it is applied to that particular ship, and all designs attached to that ship.I don't want to sound mean or anything, but I have put over 100 hours, and I'm still not done, in designing the ship, including deck plans. Also, I am still using it in that on-going space sci-fi story. I hope you can see where I'm trying to protect myself.BTW, the file size for the cadd program of the Lion's Den is over 4.3 megs!!!

Dec-10-01, 05:49 AM (EST) 25. "RE: Anybody on for a challenge?" I Dont have rights to the Learjet, I simply used a model that stew? had made available by converting a flight sim model using TSM. I detailed the mechanism of making it fly in the thread "trains and boats and planes". The borg cube took about 5 mins in TSM. I created a cube a mile on each side and textured it from the photo of the cube above and pushed export to MSTS thats all that was needed. If you look hard enough you might see the Paramount logo The Lions Den was more complex and belongs to LionKingCSML. Since TSM is so easy to use I expect there may be more ships avialable, I made the cube because I wanted to have the biggest model ever in MSTS! although theres no limit really, it does get difficult to get the camera on anything larger, and it looms off into the fog. The LD is now running as a train 100 meters above the track and I am about to use the steam effects for the thrusters and lighting for the nav lights.Terry - master of flying trains, cows, UFOs, learjets, spacecraft and Borg cubes. Dec-10-01, 12:20 PM (EST) 28. "Actually, if I recall...." Yes, Voyager was built to withstand Borg attacks, it wasn't the first ship to do so. If you'll recall (now I feel like a true geek), the USS Defiant was built, in secret, to combat the Borg. The Federation, in some cooperation with the Romulans, built the Defiant as a pure combat vessel designed to give the Borg a run for their money. The part the Romulans helped with was the cloaking device. There was a mutual agreement that a small infraction of the treaty banning the Federation from using cloaking technology was in order as both races were in extreme fear of the Borg. However, as Federation technology advanced and starships capable of fighting the Borg, other than the Defiant, were built, the Defiant was assigned to DS9 to help take care of the Dominion...*shakes head in shame* I can't believe I knew all that...-JakeM Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
