"Who can see that beauty on rails and not love it...?"(sorry, must have triggered the poetic side of my personality *LOL* )One thing only, please do model it to the normal French/European catenary height (5.5 to 6 meters...how much do they have in France?)...!Anybody know if there's a TGV line in the making right now?

Nov-27-01, 08:13 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Another TGV teaser shot..." Actually, on high speed lines it's 5 meters, somewhat lower than on the rest of the French network. It is an interesting issue, and something I need your input on: what should the wire height be? I don't want to release several versions, and I think 6.5 meters or 7 meters (whatever it is on the NEC) looks way too high. So, six? five and a half? five point eight? Hmmmm....Incidentally there is a high speed line in development at www.europeanbahn.co.uk, and the person who's making it is putting his wire at 6.5 meters for Chris Longhurst's Eurostar.Clem

<snip>I believe the wire height, as released by MSTS, et. al., is 7.2 meters, is correct, AFAIK.
If I'm not mistaken the standard wire height is about 25 feet on the NEC, or at least it was during the PRR days. My 1964 employee timetable issues a "Close Clearance" warning for Baltimore because there are "traffic signal" wires 20' above the railhead, and "a man standing on a high box car giving an overhead signal will make contact with such wires if he gives signal while passing under them ..." So using that as a guide, assuming a 16' tall "hi-cube" boxcar, a 6 foot tall man, with an extended reach, in the overhead position, of about 7 feet puts the mininum wire height at over 23 feet.Of course if someone comes up with a different wire height, for the NEC, then I will gladly retract my previous statement. :=3I will recheck my sources, and if I find I'm mistaken I will make another post to correct this one.--

Nov-27-01, 11:26 AM (EST) 10. "RE: Another TGV teaser shot..." I figured that on the NEC the overhead wires are strung higher than on European railroads. As far as Germany is concerned, they are certainly NOT seven meters high.
What I was trying to say is that you should model the TGV to the wire height appropriate for its country. I'm sure somebody will come forward with one of the original TGV lines for TS, and it would look pretty silly if the route had 5 meters wire height, but the TGV was modeled to seven meters. That is one detail I do not understand - why can't the pantographs adapt to the wire height in TS as they can in reality?

Nov-27-01, 06:57 PM (EST) 17. "ANIMATED COUPLERS????" LAST EDITED ON Nov-27-01 AT 06:58 PM (EST)HOW ABOUT ANIMATED COUPLERS?
Do youthink you could pull it off. It would be fantastic to see two TGV sets retract their noses when coupling.
Please can you consider this.
I'd rather have an outstanding version than a simple model but it's your choice Clem.

Nov-28-01, 10:39 AM (EST) 22. "RE: ANIMATED COUPLERS????" Well... there might be a problem with that. The TGV is a permanently coupled trainset, which is specified in the MSTS .eng and .wag files. I don't know if it's possible in MSTS to manually couple or uncouple two such indeformable trainsets. Try it with the Acela Express... if it won't work there, it won't work for the TGV.Clem

Nov-28-01, 11:27 AM (EST) 24. "RE: ANIMATED COUPLERS????" I think what CPRailMan meant was if it were possible to make the shroud over the automatic coupler in the nose of the power cars animated, exposing the coupler behind. Well, I think if you left out the animated wipers you might do that, but it would only work for player-controlled trains, not AI ones. Thus I'd say it would probably not be worth the effort...

Nov-27-01, 07:54 PM (EST) 18. "RE: Another TGV teaser shot..." Tomcatter,You probably meant 4,96 meters. All LGV (Lignes a Grande Vitesse) have their catenary contact wire at 5 meters above top of rail. Not 5,96 meters.Have fun

LAST EDITED ON Nov-29-01 AT 01:28 AM (EST)ABSOLUTLY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! probally only time ill ever see a TGV pullin out of 30th street. i would loveeeeeeeee to reskin that baby. Kuchinator Rail System goes TGV HIGH SPEED!. now i have to patiently wait nice work man, i remmeber seein ur earlier posts several months ago when it was in its infancy, its coming nicely. well closest i saw was an ICE train at 30th street many years ago when amtrak was evaluating them and they let ya walk through it. i think it was an ICE train, i do remmeber for sure it was the one with the special cars that tilt in curves to maintain comfort levels and balance for higher speed.
