Jun-19-01, 11:28 AM (EST) "Locomotive Physics Update" Hi All,
I just uploaded new .eng files for the -9, SD40 and SD38. The files are in a Zip file named EngUpdt1.zip in the locomotive download area here at train-sim. The files included in this zip file are the result of extensive research and testing on my part to improve the physics of the MSTS locomotives. After looking through the .eng files included with MSTS and edited files from other fans, I noted inconsistencies that I felt needed to be fixed to accurately model actual locomotive performance. All of the changes to these files are based on actual performance data of the real world locomotives from GE and EMD and data found in the actual BNSF timetables and handbooks. The .eng files have been thoroughly tested on known grades on a test track route I created just for this purpose and compared with Al Krugs train performance calculator http://www.vcn.com/~alkrug/home.html The Dash9 and SD40 are the most accurate since I had the most data on those. The GP38-2 was calculated from the data on the SD40 and Dash9 and should be pretty close. Let me know what you think!
