May-28-02, 00:44 AM (EDT) 2. "RE: I've been wanting to do this for a long time" well...since you asked...Nuthin' much to it really.. Let's take the track monitor first.
Go to \Train Simulator\GUI\DRIVERAIDS.
Might as well back up all files in this directory FIRST.
Delete trackbk.ace (track background glorified bitmap)
Make a copy of trackdrag.ace and rename it trackbk.ace. Trackdrag.ace is simply the frame you drag when you want to decide where to reposition the window.
Thassall.Repeat for pointsbk/pointsdrag (points window) and progbk/progdrag (time and next station window). The trops (train ops) window is the one showing the wagon numbers in the consist, but there's probably no need to change that one.To change the font color from pale blue to yellow for better visibility, open the relevant .dat file (e.g., monitor.dat and progress.dat) in the same folder using a Unicode editor such as Wordpad or (my favorite) EmEditor, and change each sequence of "125 125 255" to "255 255 0". These are the standard Red, Green, Blue color codes. Or you could substitute other values as I described in an earlier post.HTH. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Maybe you can put it up in file library so people who don't want to mess can just extract and overwrite files?

Add me to the list of those who deeply appreciate this fix. It definitly makes train operation less frustrating by having the windows blocking the view. Thanks, again,

May-30-02, 01:59 AM (EDT) 31. "RE: I've been wanting to do this for a long time" It's hard to know what to suggest. Since all I did was to swap some .ace files around, one might have expected similar maneuvres
using other .ace files to cause similar interference, e.g., swapping watertop.ace. Yet no one's reported this.I don't know much about FS2002, but maybe you could open the ATC file or files and check to see what bitmap files are being pointed too. It's just possible that a FS file and TS file may have the same name, or that you accidentally modified FS when you intended to modify TS.The fact that you said that replacing the TS folder with the original did not cure the problem suggests that the fault might not lie with TS, not as we understand it, since substituting the original file or folder fixes most errors of this kind. It seems unlikely to be a registry problem. Perhaps a DLL problem? At any rate, FS and TS are so popular that I'm sure others will report similar interference if this actually takes place.I wish I could be of more help. Perhaps a fresh install of both on a friend's computer might throw more light on the subject.

>light on the subject. Hells bells, I'm not going down that route .I should have been more specific on what it has done in FS2002, for me at least. It was always a transparent window but it has picked up the yellow and cyan.In any event I think that as far as MSTS is concerned this is a major discovery and of great benefit to all.As far as FS2002 is concerned as I said I can live with it. The advantage of the one far outweighs the disadvantage of the other.Paddy Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-29-02, 10:17 AM (EDT) 28. "RE: I've been wanting to do this for a long time" Oh yeah, this is def-f-finitely cool!I knew that MSTS uses a bunch of ACE files for these info windows, but it never occurred to me to make 'em invisible, either. Always hated the opaque windows - turned 'em off as soon as I could.Too bad I can't try it out for real over here in Taiwan -- oops, the "other" China this week! But maybe be home soon.Rick Vernon,

One other thing: Can you add another post with a description of the enhancement in the title. I accidentally stumbled across your post just being curious as to what "I finally did it" means. This is a quatum leap in MSTS and everyone needs to know about it!!Carlyle Thompson
