May-16-02, 08:27 AM (EDT) "Illinois Central route" I'm in the process of downloading the IC route, and I've got a couple of questions about it.1. Has the IC been merged into any larger network, and2. In the above case, who operates it, and what type of trains are seen there?I've got loads of BNSF and UP add-ons, and would like to mix them realistically on realistic locations, if possible.rgds,Nicholas

May-16-02, 08:51 AM (EDT) 1. "RE: Illinois Central route" The IC was merged in to the CN I guess about 3 years ago. Though they are considered a wholly owned subsidary, repainting is occuring. What a sad day to loose the first land grant railroad which happened in 1851 and probably the oldest surviving original named railroad.David Klemm

>occuring.Yeah, and they pass this off by putting a little "I.C." lettering on the CN paint on the side of the cab. That sucks. I think I heard somewhere though that not everything is actually being repainted into CN colors (I think someone might have seen a newly painted black deathstar?), but I'm not sure. Their plan in that regard seems to be a little haphazard, as I know that not too long ago employees were still getting their paychecks printed with any seemingly random selection of logos/company names:
Illinois Central (with deathstar logo)
Canadian National (CN noodle logo)
IC/CN (I think this was the most common)Anyway, back to the original post. . .I've seen very occasionally BNSF trains on the IC main where I used to live, and I saw one UP loco on an IC train once. So, it happens, but not very often. Actually, it seems like since CN took over, I've seen a lot more "foreign" trains on the IC, but that could just be my perception.troub

May-16-02, 11:05 AM (EDT) 3. "RE: Illinois Central route" I was at the CN Transcona Shops up here in Winnipeg 3 days ago. As my co-workers Dad works there I get to go around and look at the " Big Toys " while I'm there.Anyways, there are 3 IC units in there right now being serviced, then its off to the re-paint shops about 2 minutes away.Tim Kent
"Power for You"PS: Do you know what amazes me the most at the CN shops ????? . No employee there has ANY interest in Trains whatsoever !!!! To them its just a job. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
