Those three cylinders made a "strange sound" in comparison with wheel rotation, noting six rather then the normal 4 power strokes per wheel revolution.But when you make one, don't run it on Marias Pass, and it is a real "rail straightener" with those rigid 6 drive wheels, even if the center two wheels were "blind." Just think what it would be like sitting in the cab of one of these beasts. all the controls and gauges. you could find something new about it each time! With T.A.'s great modeling team and high quality cabs and special effects, just think how awesome this would be!!!

Hauled passenger and freight, same as NP A-3 class Northern that hauled North Coast Limited too!Everybody seems to be concentrating on bigger is better. It would be great to have some typical steam that ran right up to the end. The following engines ran from 1902 until late 1957 on the NP. They started hauling the North Coast Limited, and ended up as favorites on all branch lines and in switching service.Northern Pacific class S-4 ten wheeler 4-6-0 also very dual purpose, same as C&NW 1385 at North Freedom Wisconsin except for headlight and very minor details. Very popular engines on both freight and passenger service. TA should think, like the O die cast makers, of designing locomotive where you can make good use of the tender. The Jabelman style Challenger was used by UP, Rio Grande and Clinchfield. The same tender was used for both the Challenger, the FEF-2 and -3, and the Big Boy. Likewise the Great Northern R-2 2-8-8-2 and S-2 4-8-4 employed the same Vanderbilt tender. Some of my greatest childhood memories are waiting by the tracks at my grandparents farm for for her to arrive. When she finaly did normaly she would thunder by doing about 70 mph. What an experence. However, she once stopped about a quater of a mile from my location. I grabbed my camera and ran down to get a few photos. Memories I was also told that the NYC used to send an old 2-6-6-2 (if I remember my details right) articulated down the local branch line through downtown for switching. I was told that it was almost sad to see such a powerful loco pulling 5 or 6 cars down old rickity track. Watched them pull the "City of San Francisco" over Donner Pass and through the snow sheds. Awesome, the sound the water injectors would make on these babies!
