Apr-29-02, 08:12 PM (EDT) "Problems with Amtrak Passenger Cars..." Did anyone else have problems with the Amtrak vintage cars available with today's downloads? I've tried everything. The cars appear in the consist editor, but everytime I go to "run" the train, all I get are error messages and MSTS crashes. I even tried installing it three different ways without any success. Apr-29-02, 10:50 PM (EDT) 2. "RE: Problems with Amtrak Passenger Cars..." I created that download/skins. did you download amlocos.zip? you MUST have it to run the cars or not use the consist and make your own consist with the cars. YOU MUST have amlocos.zip in order for the consist file to work.

Apr-29-02, 11:26 PM (EDT) 4. "RE: Problems with Amtrak Passenger Cars..." I just did a download of the 2 passenger car files, I also have the amtlocos.zip. Before I try and use the cars the first thing I do is save the files to a temp area. Winzip extracted them to all of the original directory areas, but I have a Train Car Screens directory that is empty and all but the sound files in the amtrakpass directory. From the looks of the files and the batch files I believe some were not places into the correct area, or that there was an unused empty directory in the archive. Is there something wrong or do all of the files go into one directory?Richard

It just keeps crashing, even after checking all files and folders. It gives me the infamous "file not found" .wag errors. Looking at all three files, amlocos, ampass, ans ampassace, there does not appear to be any consist files any where.Try to edit an existing consist (after making a copy of it) with these new engines and cars and see if that will work. It seems some of the folders were not in the right places and I had to re-arrange the files. Using Con-builder I was able to make up a consist and they are working fine. I'm at work right now, but if my feable brain servers me correctly, I had the following problem: Downloaded all necessary files, went into the activity editor, made a consist, tried to run it and got a different .WAG error for each car, for example, if I used the diner, I got an error message that Diner.WAG could not be found...After looking in the directory the cars were installed into (AMPASS?), I noticed there WAS an AMDINER.WAG, but no DINER.WAG, so I cut and pasted AMDINER.WAG, renamed it DINER.WAG and it worked! Then proceeded to do the same for COACH.WAG and the others.That solved problem number 1. Problem number 2 was that when I tried to create an activity with these cars it would continuously derail - think that had to do with trying to drive 40MPH through a switch, though!Good Luck!Dan Godfrey Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I tried a simple consist with 2 locomotives I have used with success before, added a baggage car, the coaches and the observation car and as expected got the message: Error reading train database file File:Trains\Trainset\Amtrakpass\Coach.wag. I didn't know what file would be pointed out, but I knew one would be. Cut down to the locomotives,a baggage, and the observation car, the observation car was the one that triggered the error. I know I must have fouled up when I combined the two download files into one. The only folder within the main AMTRAK folder I have is the sound folder. Maybe I am to create other file folders? I know in the past I have rewritten parts of files and by trial and error and just plain dumb luck I have gotten things to run. This is such a huge collection of files, I may hit retirement age before I can get it all sorted out. The effort and thought to create such a set must be monumental.I think I must be missing something simple and obvious. Eventually I will sort it out,or someone will shed enough light on the problem that I will understand how to fix it, or a fix will be offered in the download section. I am sure when they are up and running on my machine, it will all be worth it if they are at all like the VIA and TA creations they are cousins of. The picture within the file looks great. I made a simple consist of one engine and the first coach that appeared. Error in Databse file for the coach wag appeared just as I feared it would. I read the posts. I don't see any useful folder except the sound folder. As to the cut and paste cure, would that be that the wag files are all defective and need text lines to be edited or are the names just wrong?Well, as to authenticity, the files are very Amtrak. Just like the real institution they cannot be relied on to work. Still, I think with the bloodline these models come from, they are sure to be worth all this trouble, and a few hours sorting out bugs will not compare to the days or weeks it probably took our author to reskin them. I still think I am missing something basic and obvious that I will discover when I compare file by file these with either my copies of the VIA or the ESE vehicles.Joe Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-02-02, 08:46 AM (EDT) 11. "RE: Problems with Amtrak Passenger Cars..." This is a classic example of what happens when a product is released prematurely.... IMHO this guy should have gotten some one to "package" these up for him....
The cutting and pasting and the poorly formed zip files have made this package all but unuseable for the average user....
I know I had to learn the same lesson the hard way...If the author will contact me I'll see what I can do to help!

Getting the "Canadian" to package and install properly took a couple days until I had it just right, and its basically the same files. I've decided that from here on out , all my stuff will be self installing, it's a lot easier for the end-user that way..

Did you ever get your Amtrak cars running? I have not.Still no solution to the derailed Amtrak file. The wag files just do not work. I do not have a clue what is wrong with them. I did what the author said to do over and over. Downloaded twice. Built different consists...there is no consist file with the downloads. I have decided to run a consist made up of Amtrak locos with ESE, Santa Fe, PRR, and all the other car sets I can get to run and have the earliest version of Amtrak based on hand me downs. Either that or run a consist with ESE or Santa Fe cars, remove my glasses and imagine and imagine through blur the Amtrak stripes. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Maybe we can work together on this one. if you can repackage my cp rail cars ,silver streak cars and amtrak cars i would love that. i am obviosuly no good at making zips for passenger cars. individual locomotives, and cars yes, any person can do that, i am no good at multi loco/car zips. i am greatful somebody wants to help me. are you interested in me joining NALW? i'd be more than happy to contibute my repainting skills to current projects of the group and my own projects as well. maybe i can give somebody at nalw a zip of my future files and they make them into exe's or whatever necessary so they cars work for people. If you need the consist file for the amtrak cars tell me where to e-mail it and I will. thank you for trying to help me out! I love you guys. I have not been complaining about "When will the big boy be released?"Duy, have been very quietly and exctedly waiting for it's release. very glad to see jens-chris is doing the 3985 too. in my book of train people, he's a god. ( and so is NALW!)
