Apr-22-02, 02:28 PM (EDT) "D&RGW Update." Once again I am asking for an update of any and all things D&RGW, we are just getting bits and pices scatterd all over the forums, so I am starting this thread so we can have a centralized location to look over the routes and rolling stock being produced for both SG and NG.

CLOSE TO UPLOADING...
GP35, three different numbers, waiting for light work. If you purchase the Pro-edition from Dekosoft, you get a custom cabview (that I made), and the dynamic brake version. It looks really strange without the brakes. It has THE BEST cabview in my opinion.

Ski train, all three engines. I am waiting on a model with ditch lights that is coming "soon" from NALW. These are very cool to drive around.

The now 11 boxcars. I just have to make a readme and file ID for these.

And a bunch of 2-Bay hoppers
(no pics yet)If you have any other ideas of things to make, email me or reply here. Also if you have any pictures (preferably side shots) of DRGW equipment you would like to see in the game, email me also. I take pride in what I do, and hopefully my repaints are fun to drive around.Later

Apr-22-02, 10:35 PM (EDT) 4. "RE: D&RGW Update." LAST EDITED ON Apr-22-02 AT 10:35 PM (EST)Nothing D&RGW "in the shop" right now, but my current project is an "accessory pack" for my Durango & Silverton coaches that includes box car, drover caboose, and possibly an open air gondola if I can find a car that looks decent repainted like one. I'm considering a new version of the D&RGW "Cookie Box" boxcar if I can find a good photo of one to make a photorealistic texture. I was never quite happy with the first one I did as it was made from a scanned HO car and looks a little "model trainy". Some projects I've got planned for the near future are repainting the TA VIA set version 2.0 as the Rio Grande Zephyr (big project) and a D&RGW Challenger when Roger finishes his Challenger.Grizz

Apr-23-02, 11:11 AM (EDT) 7. "RE: D&RGW Update." The Antonito to Chama segment of the D&RGW NG empire - the current Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR route - is in progress. Standard guage track is about 99% done - I'm going to add a wye at Bighorn, but that's about all that's left. Scenery is about 5% complete. I'm revising the terrain textures, laying out trees, placing trestles, and looking for adequate structures for 40s/50s time frame. I'm also looking for something that would simulate the spindly trestles at Lobato and Cascade. I also just saw the low-ballast track texture on the download site - that will probably work very well for simulating NG track.Schedule - we don't need no stinking schedule. That's why it's a hobby, not a job. But I hope to have something out the door sometime this summer. Andy Miller Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-23-02, 07:42 PM (EDT) 8. "RE: D&RGW Update." LAST EDITED ON Apr-23-02 AT 07:45 PM (EST)I'm plugging away at the Moffat Road portion of the D&RGW empire. My line is going from Tabernash to Craig (since another guy is working on Denver to Fraser or Tabernash), and will also include the Dotsero cutoff from Bond to Dotsero. If I include the Axial Branch from Craig and the Energy Spur as well, this will come out to like 230-240 miles of track. Right now I have 17 miles done from Parshall to Gore, but I am working steadily, and I hope to have the track done in a few months. I have all of the terrain extracted from DEMs, and am working from track charts, so the grades and curves will be "as real as it gets". I'm not much of a 3D modeler, so I'm not sure how the towns and such will look, but fortunately there aren't many towns along this line, only 23 tunnels, and some great 12-degree U-turns. It's going to be sweet! The picture is from between Flat and Parshall. Enjoy!Message Areas - "D&RGW Update." – image 14 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-24-02, 07:03 AM (EDT) 13. "RE: D&RGW Update." Looks good. Keep plugging away at it! Don't worry too much about the structures for a while. I've found with the C&TSRR that once the track is down, working with textures, trees, and tunnels takes at least as much time as laying track. It takes quite a bit of time to make the forests look "full" and keep the ends of the fir backdrops from hanging out in space. When you get to the point where you're working on the scenery, open Marias Pass in the RE and just zip around and check out the way they used the textures and tree shapes. That's helped me quite a bit, but I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I've really just started on scenery, working from Chama toward Cumbres - almost to Lobato. It's a slow process (for me, anyway), but seeing the "finished" product and how much more realistic it looks than the bare tile texture has kept me motivated.Andy Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-29-02, 08:20 AM (EDT) 19. "D&RGW Update." OK - here's some progress shots of the C&TSRR:View from the caboose heading up the grade from Chama toward Lobato:Message Areas - "D&RGW Update." – image 26Just below the small plateau at Lobato:Message Areas - "D&RGW Update." – image 27 Coming around the curve to start the climb out of Lobato toward Cumbres:Message Areas - "D&RGW Update." – image 28 I've gotten most of the scenery in place from Chama to about mile 337 (7 miles or so). Chama doesn't have much yet, but it's started. Antonito's at about 281, so I've got a ways to go yet, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. Placing the streams takes a bit of time, but really adds to the view. That's the Mountain Stream texture posted on the download site - I can't remember the author, but he did a very nice job.Next task - download the Devil's Gorge trestle just posted - whenever I can get connected - and keep pressing forward. It'll really be nice to have those K36's leading the way!Andy Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-29-02, 12:51 PM (EDT) 21. "RE: D&RGW Update." Fozzy:I'll have to wait until I get home to check them out - yet another reason to look forward to the end of the day! One other thing I did after I took these shots was to get the "low ballast" track texture - that really adds (actually subtracts) a lot. Makes the ties look like they're laid right on the graded bed - suspiciously like the NG tracks I've actually seen (or pics I've seen). If I can ever get connected to the downloads again, I'll see if I can get that nice, spidery Devil's Gorge trestle and put it in place at Lobato and Cascade. THAT'll make a nice screen shot.Andy Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
