Apr-21-02, 02:26 PM (EDT) "Erros When Using Activity Editor for Marias3" Whenever I open or make a new activity in the Marias 3 route using the activity editor I get two errors. One: Error reading database file File:Trains\consist\3xd40+50chemical+helper.conThe other error: Error reading database file File:trains\consist\3bnsftrailerautotrain long.conWhen I say yes the acitivty editor lets me continue. Are these errors as a result of the problem with activies not working properly in Marias3? And will the fix prevent the errors? Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-21-02, 02:55 PM (EDT) 1. "RE: Erros When Using Activity Editor for Marias3" Try this if you don't already have it, go to the file library and serach for rc-lite.zip . The checkup feature of that gives you a list of what's missing or wrong. What you have in that instance is an activity or activities that are looking for a service (or a traffic pattern which in turn is looking for a service), which is looking for a consist, which then looks for the engines and cars. Something like this;\Activity\drivetrain.act, lists "Player_Service_Definition ( train1 It also lists loose consists "US2ChemiCar" and "US2FCarRE2".
In \Services\Train1.srv I find the actual player consist.
In Train Simulator\Trains\Consists, I find the .con files that are called for by the \Activities\*.act files (for loose cars), and the .con file for the player consist called for by the \Services\*.srv files. Opening up the .con file in wordpad, it now has a list of the files in \Train Simulator\Trains\Trainset. That's pretty much how the chain goes;
\Activities \Paths \Services \Traffic in the route folder.
Train Simulator\Trains\Consist\*.con
Train Simulator\Trains\Trainset\engine or car folders.
When you delete something from that chain, you have to start from the top down, since the errors happen from the bottom up. If a trainset is missing, the consist that looks for it gives an error, if the consist is missing or can't find one of the trainsets, the activity listing the consist gives an error. Apr-22-02, 09:25 AM (EDT) 2. "RE: Erros When Using Activity Editor for Marias3" Thanks siper for the info. Seems very complicated for me. Think I may just put up with the errors or delete the route and reistall it if you think that would work? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-22-02, 09:47 AM (EDT) 3. "RE: Erros When Using Activity Editor for Marias3" Its not that complicated. What you can do is download conbuilder and make the consist, it can be any combination of loco,s and cars and save it as the consist that is missing. This should take car of the problem.
Conbuilder and Route control are extremely useful programs to have to use with MSTS. They will catch 99% of the errors and enable you to fix them.Kevin Arceneaux Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-22-02, 02:20 PM (EDT) 4. "RE: Errors When Using Activity Editor for Marias3" Thanks Kevin!! I'll try those programs. Since I wrote this post, I now find that I cant even open the acivity editor for PO & N routes so something is very wrong. I spent the weekend downloading a bunch of new cars and engines so hope that hasnt messed things up. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-25-02, 01:20 PM (EDT) 5. "RE: Errors When Using Activity Editor for Marias3" This has been covered several times. These two consists are in services that were left in the MP3 distribution and are not part of the standard MP route. They are used in several activities, so the easiest way to get rid of the message is to install one of the Whitefish Local activities by Rob Easterday from the MP30ACT2.zip file. These activities include the consists and will get rid of the error message.BTW, the message just says that a service exists that refers to a consist that isn't there. If you knew the service name (it would be nice if the error message told you that!), you could easily get rid of the error by editing the service and changing the consist. I'm working on MP3.1 (slowly) and will get rid of this problem then (and hopefully not introduce any more problems!) Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
