Apr-18-02, 08:49 PM (EST) "New command-line switches!" Okay, it's been driving me nuts ever since I found out that there are more keys mapped to stuff than we're allowed to use. (Go look in common.txt and general.txt in the /global directory if you don't believe me.) Here's the thread that inspired me: http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID7/592.htmlAnyway, I poked around with the registry (to no avail), so I pushed on and went at train.exe with a hex editor. Oh, the information! It's chock full of little strings that I have no clue about their purpose. Some are obvious - we've seen the same names in the unicode file we edit. Most of them are also in unicode, which makes them a pain to read since the editor shows every character preceded by a dot due to the empty byte. I was able to make some speculation on what might prove useful for my purpose based on the already known command-line switches, which are:
Posted by Microsoft (and maybe within the techdocs; I used the site: http://www.microsoft.com/games/trainsim/faq_advanced.asp):
/fsaa
/anisotropic
/forcemaskz
/pixbias
/maxtex:256
/nofiltercab
/ttfblitfix
/skipsizecheck
/skipbiascheck
/simpleclippingFound by using /? (or /h , /help) on train.exe
/dev (use /? to get the arguments)
/vm (ditto)I was able to search for these in their unicode format and then assume that the surrounding text might also be command line switches too.
So, without further delay:
Ones I know worked
/perflog
/listshapesOne that caused an immediate S/DS:
/scaledlevsThese are ones that I didn't get to do anything or I forgot to test
solidwires
maxres
nocompress
afrsupport
export_world
drawad
visit
FORCETEXOPS
MINTEX
3DFX
leakmsg
mem
stdout
stderr
console
chanfile
deffile
debugger
db
Some of these may actually be arguments to those that might be switches. That's how the /dev switch manifests itself - the args and the switch are all listed together. Apparently there's also a tnlhal and tnlhal2 arg for this switch. Okay. Brief comments about the ones that worked - perflog creates the file perflog.csv in your trainsim directory. Approx. every second, it logs all sorts of variables related to performance (hence the name). listshapes creates a shapelist.txt in your trainsim dir that contains (surprise!) a list of all the .s files it loads as you go along. It doesn't appear to log any of the actual rolling stock, just route editor type stuff. This one could be very useful. I await responses/questions/whathaveyou. I'm stopping here since this post is already longer than I like to read
I'll probably continue plinking away at it as I have free time. As you see, there's a debug and a console listed. Those HAVE to do something.Scott Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-18-02, 08:57 PM (EST) 1. "RE: New command-line switches!" And I'm not responsible for any damage done by the use of any of the info I just posted. We obviously weren't supposed to know any of this. Just in case anyone tries to blame me for something... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
