Apr-17-02, 07:07 AM (EST) "SD Ram vs DDR Ram" Can you put DDR Ram in a computer that originally came with SD Ram - If so, can both types be mixed if the computer does not require matched sets of ram. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-17-02, 08:19 AM (EST) 1. "RE: SD Ram vs DDR Ram" LAST EDITED ON Apr-17-02 AT 08:20 AM (EST)I don't think you can mix the ram. The only reason for thinking this is I recently called Dell on a computer I was thinking of getting. What I wanted was a bare bones Dell for I have 512MB Ram and a better graghics card. So I thought I would just swap everything from my old Dell to the new one in order to save money. They said it is not possible to use my SD ram on a machine requireing RD ram. So I would guess it is not possible to go the other way as well. I could be wrong on this, just passing along what info was given to me.

Apr-17-02, 08:40 AM (EST) 2. "RE: SD Ram vs DDR Ram" The answer to my stupid question is no no. Just got some DDR to upgrade my new computer. The slot patterns are different, so I guess my old guy won't be getting any hand me downs. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-17-02, 09:39 AM (EST) 3. "RE: SD Ram vs DDR Ram" I got an ASUS A7A-266 mobo which has 2 DDR slots and 3 SDRAM slots, but that is definitely an either/or situation. The manual warns that having both DDR and SDRAM installed at the same time will destroy the DDR RAM. You want all DDR anyway, in the "olden days" you could get away with mixing RAM speeds, but all the RAM would slow to the speed of the slowest stick of RAM installed.

Apr-17-02, 10:35 AM (EST) 4. "RE: SD Ram vs DDR Ram" The ddr uses dimm slots of 184pins.The sdr uses dimm slots of 168pins.This means you can not put a ddr dimm into an sdr dimm slot. You can not mix or match either, it will most probably damage something or other. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
