Apr-14-02, 08:35 PM (EST) "Windows XP Pro Crashes" After installing MS Tain Simulator, I tried to run the program but it shuts down and restarts the pc. It does this with or without the update. I am running an 800 Mhz with 256 MB of ram. The SBlive has the the latest drivers and I have a voodoo 4500 with the latest drivers I could find. All other games and Applications run fine. This is my first Microsoft game. Compatibility mode ended up doing the same thing. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I've got WinXP Home edition and MSTS installed and runs fine. Both without and then with update. I get much fewer lockups and crashes (but not totally eliminated). My "brand spanking new" system is P4 2GHz, ASUS Geforce4 4400, 512 RAM, Soundblaster Audigy soundcard.I recall having some problems with my SB Live under Win98. Disabling "hardware acceleration" solved quite a few lock ups. To do this you have to Run DXDiag (using RUN in the START menu), Click on the SOUND tab and move the hardware acceleration slider all the way to the left.I'm afraid that's about all I can offer. Thanks for your ideas Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q161961The lastest version of DirectX is included in XP PRO, so most liely it's your video drivers. So my advice is to uninstall MSTS, make sure you completely uninstall. That includes manually deleting the folder left behind in ProgramFiles\MicrosoftGames\TraimSimulator\, then empty the Recycle Bin. Do a COLD restart! Now download all the newest Drivers for both video and sound. Run Disk Check on your HDD, it's in Programs, Accessories, System Tools. Re-install MSTS and the update. Restart again. Open the MSTS TroubleShooter, and check video card and run it. Now try and run the game.MAX Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
