Apr-13-02, 01:54 PM (EST) "Help with screen shots" LAST EDITED ON Apr-13-02 AT 02:15 PM (EST)What program can be used to save the shot into the jpeg format? I have taken shots and pasted into Word 2000 successfully. When I paste the shot into Paint or Adobe Photo Styler, it is converted into a bitmap which looks awful. I am running Win 98 SE with Office 2000 and Adobe Photo Styler 4. Do I need more software to save as a jpg? I can open jpg and tif files. If I can get the shot saved as a jpg, I know how to get it into the message.Carlyle ThompsonI may have solved this one also. I discovered that the screen shots are saved in the Train Sim main directory as pcx files. I was able to use the Kodak Imaging and Adobe to get the shot into a jpg that is 169 kbs instead of the 2 megs of other type files. I will try to include with this post. Not successful. Will try again later.Carlyle Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-13-02, 02:53 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Help with screen shots" Carlyle,Make sure your .jpg's don't exceed 100kb or they won't upload at all.
If your version of Adobe has a "save as" feature, you should get a drop down menu of choices, one of which should be ".jpg".
Hope this helps.

Apr-13-02, 05:59 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Help with screen shots" Once you save the shot as a .jpg, crop the picture until the result is less than 100Kb. No other size will upload into the message area. Unfortunately MSTS saves the screen grabs as .pcx only as you have seen. You should be able to open that file in any good graphics program and do a save-as to turn it into a .jpg. Good luck on it.Richard

Apr-13-02, 06:17 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Help with screen shots" Thanks for the help. I just need to crop down to less than 100K. I have an interesting shot of the oil train crossing the bridge between java west and east at MP 1068. As I approached the bridge, the train separated six cars behind the engines. Apr-13-02, 08:52 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Help with screen shots" Cropping down to less than 100K is a good idea. You're right: reducing the size of your image (cropping) will reduce the size of your file, but other techniques will also help. I don't think you need extra software! Like "I don't need extra money, and I'm too slender." Right? But seriously, if you can get the file into Microsoft Paint, you can save it as a jpeg! (Here we have more than Microsoft Paint, I'm just saying you probably don't need more than what you already have on your system) The fist thing I do when working with MSTS pictures is boost the resolution, which makes the image look much bigger, then come back to a normal size by resetting the physical size of the image (not at first, the file). If you are able to regard the raw image from Train Simulator, you may notice, in the properties, the small physical size and relatively high resolution of that picture. When you jack the resolution, the size apparently gets much larger. The image itself maintains its actual physical size, so boosting the resolution makes the image look much bigger. After fitting to view or however you are able then to get a handle on your resolution increased image ... THEN reduce the image size ... cropping, dithering, subsequent resolution manipulation ... (I use all ... but at this stage, I reset the image size in Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia's Fireworks.)My target image size is about 3X5 inches, my target file size is no more than 35K. Sometimes things make me go higher, but generally, even 20K is a good image here! See: http://www.jivagoswamidasa.com/mcrstmrc01.htmHope this helps! Looking forward to seeing how you did.Come back?jivajvia Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Ideal for this type of messing around.
Plus it has heaps of different type file converters.Message Areas - "Help with screen shots" – image 2 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Plus, Paint Shop is user friendly and closer to reasonably affordable.
