Apr-07-02, 10:11 AM (EST) "Hey Train Artisan, listen to this. " I was reading a book on the Boston & Albany railroad and in the section on NYC steam engines on the B&A, there was a picture of the locomotive that's included with you ESE trainset, J3 Hudson No. 5426. The caption said the photo was taken at Framingham, MA and said that the photo was the only color photo of streamlined Hudson on the B&A. Just thought you like to know.Hoosac Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I think towards the end of their life the streamlined engines of the N.Y.C. were used anywhere they were needed, even ocassionally for freight, then sold off to second tier railroads.

Apr-07-02, 01:16 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Hey Train Artisan, listen to this. " The whole streamlined era was more publicity than substance and the shrouds were removed from the engines, Nos 5445-5454 about 1945-47, 5426 & 5429 in 1949. No streamlined hudsons were sold to any other road.
The streamlined Hudsons were bumped off the elite runs by the superior Niagras, NYC's 4-8-4 types, in 1945. One of the "Empire" hudsons, the 5426, was assigned to the Chicago- Detroit leg of the Mercury.Info from "Thoroughbreds" by Alvin F. Staufer and Ed L. MayAnd That's what became of the streamlined Hudsons! Tim Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
