Apr-06-02, 10:16 PM (EST) "Swap engines" Pretty new to MSTS, so bear with me.
Is it possible using downloaded engines to swap what is in any of the activities (TS standards or downloaded activities)? I totally dislike BNSF and want to back date to BN with caboose.
Can I keep the activities as is and just swap power and add a cab?
Thanks. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-06-02, 11:30 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Swap engines" Yes, and it's pretty simple.Open the MSTS Activity Editor.Click "File" then "Open" (may be "Load", it's been a while)For Marias Pass, the folder is USA2...then "Activities"Open whichever activity you want to change engines on. Over on the right, you'll see "Player Service" Click "edit".That'll open a new window, about midway down you'll see "Consist". Click "edit".Now you should have the consist editor. To delete the default BNSF loco(s) click them one at a time and drag them up and to the left a bit, over the odd little button that kinda looks like a coupler. It's actually a "car crusher" so that when you let go of the mouse button over it, the loco or car goes away. Now just find whatever locomotive you want to put in the consist. Same thing for the caboose, just find it in the file list and put it in.Also, it'd be handy to download "Conbuilder" from the file library. This little program lets you make, edit, and delete consists without having to use the blankety blank MSTS editors.Blake Harris

Apr-06-02, 11:45 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Swap engines" Sounds like a radical study to me. Probably better to create a new service and consist for the activity than to edit the original, you run into error messages sometimes if you alter the originals. Just my conservative opinion, of course! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-07-02, 01:28 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Swap engines" Hi,I concur with Jim. But I am some years older and thus somewhat more conservative. The Activity Editor has a nice feature: Use as template, this is simular to Save As.
Use this feature to create a new service and a new consist.
Also my practise is to save the changed Activity as a new one with a distinctive name, so I know that it is the changed Activity. Dick van den Hoven

Apr-07-02, 02:19 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Swap engines" Hi,Yes of course you can do that darkhorse.
But the problem is that default consists can be used by every one and you can end up with a car or engine that really don't want on some place.A better guideline is, to leave the default consists alone and create new ones for your own use.
Besides when you need to reinstall MSTS, all your changed default consists are gone and replaced by the versions that come with MSTS. So keep them in a save place, just in case of a reinstall.Dick van den Hoven
