Mar-30-02, 00:42 AM (EST) "What fallen flags do you miss?" These I miss the most:

These next:
I like the follow railroad,It isn't a fallen flag, but I hold sort of a grudge against them because they killed the previous three railroads in the post.(they didn't kill the BN, they merged with the SantaFe in 1995 and I hold no grudge against SF)

Mar-30-02, 02:10 AM (EST) 6. "RE: What fallen flags do you miss?" Wow. Glad to see someone remembers the ole T&P. I've searched for some T&P diesels, but with no luck. My grandfather spent his RR career working for them, out of Shreveport, LA. If you ever run across any T&P skins, I'd love to have the link. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-30-02, 09:35 AM (EST) 16. "RE: What fallen flags do you miss?" Preferably the ones they used for passenger service, but I'd like to have it all; switchers, caboose, stock, etc. I'll dig through the Train-Sim libraries some more, and check back here for links if anyone stumbles across anything specific.
We used to ride from New Orleans to Shreveport and back on the T&P when I was very young in the late 60s. I'd love to be able to recreate those trains and show the kids! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

The E8s were really spectacular. I remember those fast passenger trains. They also had some GP18s as well. I would be happy to provide the .eng files for those.

Mar-30-02, 04:42 PM (EST) 35. "RE: What fallen flags do you miss?" Nice site, thanks for the link. I barely remember seeing the engines; mostly I remember the coaches. But it seems like the colors I remember would go nicely with those blue E8s and F7s. I'm trying to find any old RR pics of my grandfather's, but no luck yet.
Thanks, guys....

The sleek E units of the Wabash are now as gone as the spider web of tracks once entangling St. Louis Union Station...
If we always remember them, they will never truly be dead...

Mar-30-02, 04:06 PM (EST) 34. "RE: What fallen flags do you miss?" Nels,
212 served most of it's career as one of Manufacturers Railway's numerous ALCOs here in St. Louis. Manufacturers Railway is owned by Anheuser-Busch and serves their South St. Louis plant. When MRS began to go all EMD in the 80s this ALCO was donated to Union Station to switch their collection of old railroad equipment that is on display on the few remaining tracks in the Union Station shed. Union Staion is now a shopping mall/hotel and the majority of the old train shed is now parking. I guess the need for a switcher at Union Station disappeared so 212 was sold.

Mar-30-02, 02:07 AM (EST) 5. "RE: What fallen flags do you miss?" The fallen flags that I miss the most are Southern Pacifc and Western Pacific. Southern Pacific the most, that was the railroad that my modeling interests matured with. I hardly ever knew the WP as they were absorbed by the UP when I was about 5. I too hold a grudge against the UP and have little interest in modeling modern UP operations due to the take over SP. Another fallen flag that I miss is the Santa Fe, in contrast to most other modelers who favor the silver and red war bonnet scheme, I prefer the blue and yellow diesel schemes. The voice of insanity in a seemingly normal world. My Kodak Instamatic and I ventured all around the area courtesy of my bike and my Dad, and these are the experiences that make me love trains today, 30 years later. Some pics from those days:Erie Lackawanna at Seacaucus, NJ
Central RR of NJ at Bay Head, NJ
Lehigh Valley RR at Jersey City. This one is particularly meaningful given recent events, the WTC under construction in Feb 1973.

When they started running diesels in the late 30's, the color scheme was purple and silver for all units until 1959 when the awful black and yellow was adopted in anticipation of the merger with competitor, Seaboard Air Line since SAL had several paint schemes. I believe that the first production black and yellow units ordered for the ACL were GP30's in the early 60's. Once the merger took place in 1967, everything went black and yellow very quickly. That purple and silver brings back many childhood summer memories of staying with my grandfather who worked for ACL. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
