Mar-11-02, 08:32 AM (EST) "Feedback would be appreciated..." I am pondering the purchase of an add-on to be released later this month called "High Speed Trains" from AEROSOFT <www.aerosoft.com>. Since it's rather pricey, around thirty (30) USD] + overeas postage, I was hoping to find someone out there in our vast audience who has some experience with other products from this publisher. They've been around for awhile apparently; mostly into flight sim stuff. Any feedback on what I might or might not expect would be helpful and very much appreciated.Thank you all and have a great day! Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-11-02, 04:32 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Feedback would be appreciated..." I would be wary considering the first set of activities that were released for retail, ie the activities pack. I think you can get far more good stuff here for nothing. Just my opinion tho.David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-29-02, 07:49 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Feedback would be appreciated..." Hmmm...judging from those screenshots I must say that the trains and engines (especially the ICE) look too "angular" to me - anyone familiar with the ICE will confirm that the body edges are very smoothly rounded, and I think this has not been captured very well on the Aerosoft version. Hopefully this is going to be resolved until release...I'd sure like to get some fast-movers for TS, but none of the add-on packs I've seen so far were very convincing to me. I'm still hoping for the TGV retail add-on - do I recall it correctly that this one is going to contain Clem Tillier's TGV trainsets?Just my € 0.02.D.M."Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-30-02, 03:59 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Feedback would be appreciated..." I am beginning to wonder just how much stuff people want. I like playing activities, and am currently suffering from "download fatigue", spending so much time downloading, that I never play! LOL.To actually pay for routes, when there is so much good stuff available for free, seems a waste of time IMHO. Its like taking apples, having one bite and going to the next. I have a folder full of stuff not installed yet, I like to play a fair few activities again, because they are cleverly done.To sum up, I see no point in buying anything at the moment.David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-09-02, 11:43 AM (EST) 8. "Just bought High Speed Trains!" It was sitting there in Electonique Boutique in the UK, saying BUY ME! Its a lot more difficult to say no when you have that lovely box in your hands!Anyway, it seems that this, plus the Eirie route have the same UK distributer. It comes at £24.95, which is a bit steep for one route, but I like high speed stuff. It installed easily from the disc, and has 5 different trains to drive in the 6 activities included. There is comprehensive scenery, plenty of AI stuff, and nice little touches, like an in-train address system when you close the doors (the doors do not move BTW), and electric flashes from the overhead wires. There is a 46 page manual, with descriptions of the trains, signalling, and guide to the activities. Is it worth it? To me, yes, but my favourite is the NEC, which is similar.David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-09-02, 12:24 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Just bought High Speed Trains!" >Is it worth it? To me, yes, but my favourite is the NEC, which is similar. DTA, have you noticed that there are two trains in the package, suitable for the NEC?
It is the ICE1 in a Amtrak test version with correct pantograph height and a ICE3 in a NEC version. I haven't tested the latest one, but I think they will have a correct panto.I keep my meaning about this route to myself, it is only suited for very old adults, who cannot be shocked .What you get:
90 km of highspeed route with a few sidings and two end-stations.
Very simple scenery, most of it cardboard style
A bunch of Activities, but the two freight Activities use default freight cars. Ough, American freight cars on a German payware route.
The Highspeed train ICE1 in two versions, German and Amtrak
The Highspeed train ICE2
The Highspeed train ICE3 in three versions, German, NS and NEC
German Diesel locomotive BR216 and a BR218.
Electric locomotive E103 in 5 versions,
- Lufthansa express
- Interregio
- Neu rot
- TEE
- Touristik
Several passenger cars in the same version as the E103
- A steam locomotive P10, designed by MadMike
- Several wooden passenger cars
- A SchienenZeppelinMadMike offers the P10 as freeware on his website:

Apr-10-02, 12:06 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Just bought High Speed Trains!" Hi,I don't much about the Heidi Expres. I must say that after two dissapointing payware routes, my appetite for payware has flawed.According to the sparse info, you get a short route with some Rhätische Bahn stuff, but I suppose that will be narrow gauge stuff on standard track.I expect much from the coming first route of German Railroads, the BiggeTal route. It gots a splendid review at www.simrail.deDick van den Hoven

Not three or four days ago, TA is applauded for going payware, and now whoever this is... you'd think payware was the worst thing that happened to ya.My advice is this. DON'T LISTEN TO NOBODY HERE! You'll go crazy if you do.

Apr-10-02, 01:10 PM (EST) 13. "RE: Feedback would be appreciated..." Rich,We have discussed payware privately some months ago.
I personally will never aplaud TA when they go payware.I have got two payware routes that dissapoint me. You can smell that they are made for earning money. Not the love for the subject. Getting money was the first goal. When you the Highspeed Train route from Aerosoft, your eyes will be full of tears. All tunnels are the same, most of the bridges are the same. Here and there some cardboard houses.
And the price is EUR 38, about $35OK, some positive points: real good signals and signalling, nice signs and signs with tunnelnames. Good markers. Good gantries and the two real stations are looking good.
I know this route is made for highspeed driving. Well driving on highspeed, you're done in half an hour.Ok there is payware stuff, that is good as the 3D Train stuff, Dekosoft, Kicking Horse.
But in fact, it is not payware, they ask some money just to get out of the costs. The Kicking Horse route is a route where you can see that the guys that created it, loved their stuff.Dick van den Hoven

Apr-10-02, 02:06 PM (EST) 14. "RE: Feedback would be appreciated..." That is more or less right. Having bought High Speed Trains and run everything, it is a bit of a disapointment. It needs to be twice as long, with more actual stations, rather than stopping points. It is difficult to see how you could add any decent activities for it. The trains themselves are nice, and the stations are good as well. And I cannot believe a steam train would be able to handle all those tunnels, with the blower on nearly all the time, and the firebox closed. All in all, I no longer think it a good buy.David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-11-02, 12:10 PM (EST) 19. "RE: Feedback would be appreciated..." Dare I blow my own horn here and advertise my commercial pack? I think you'll like the ICE2 in comparison to the high speed trains pack. Mine has the full cab, transparent windows and is the proper shape - ie. not angular. There's some screenshots here posted by one of the beta testers including outside, cab and passenger views:

Well - if I can't be proud of my own work, who else will be?![]()

Apr-11-02, 03:07 PM (EST) 20. "RE: Feedback would be appreciated..." I know you stuff is good Chris, as I have downloaded some of the free stuff you started with. The site is a bit confusing. Basically I want to know what we are getting for the money. How long is the route, how many trains, how many activities. The last bit is very important. Until people get the routes and perhaps add activities, the route is useless to those of us who do not do our own. I will buy routes that have at least 6 activities, preferably more, the route is at least 200km long, and there is plenty of AI stuff.David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-11-02, 03:15 PM (EST) 21. "RE: Feedback would be appreciated..." My pack - the Euro Loco Pack is 10 locomotives with full-rake consists, all with custom cabs and passenger views. No activities or route, just trains. But more trains (and better) than those that came with the original MSTS. In some cases, noteably the TGV Duplex, the full rake is a hell of a lot of work because just about every carriage is different...
The TGV route pack, which I contributed towards, but didn't build, is about 1000km of navigable track including the channel tunnel, with two TGVs, the BB15000 with a full rake and handful of activities.![]()
