Mar-05-02, 10:26 PM (EST) "Signal Speed Limits" I have been using MSTS for a few weeks and notice that the first Approach signal (on the NEC) you come across has a speed limit of 45mph.When you are travelling at 110mph, how are you supposed to see and slow down to 45mph before the signal? I know the Track Monitor gives you this information, but I can't imagine that this is how it really works on the prototype.I have found that on some routes the Track Monitor shows a Green signal and once you pass this signal at great speed, the next signal is Approach and only a short distance away (Too short a distance to slow down in time). More often than not, it's all over before you can blink and the Penalty Brake is applied. Any ideas?Regards,Jason Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-06-02, 00:07 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Signal Speed Limits" I changed the approach limited speed to 60 mph that way the speed progression is 60-45-30-0 and there is usually plenty of time to stop. I'll upload the script file if there seems to be enough demand for it. Does anyone know what the speeds are on the prototype? I would much rather upload a signal script using accurate speeds.Just a suggestion, but if you aren't already using NEC 2.0, I think you should download it. There are many improvements over the default NEC, and the signal spacing there is much more reasonable. There is at least 1 mile between signals except near yards, and usually around 2. Even without changing the signal script, 1 mile is plenty of time to slow from 125 mph down to 45 mph. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-06-02, 01:48 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Signal Speed Limits" Hi Guys,
It verys a little from RR to RR but normaly you get an advanced approach, (Flashing Yellow) and there is no speedlimit change. It warns you to slow as you may have an approach or approach medium at the next signal. That one will have a speedlimit associated with it, depends on the railroad. Once you get an approach you basicly slow to a speed that you can stop at the next signal if it displays a red. Can the script be edited to remove a restriction from the advanced approach? If so I'd love to know how this is done. Even just raising it to the lines max speed would be a big help and improve realism.

Mar-06-02, 03:42 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Signal Speed Limits" Also, do not forget that ALL train on the NEC have cab signals telling the engineer the aspect of the next signal, which also helps in the stopping and slowing down of the train. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I don't think so but it can definitely be raised to line speed(which for all intents and purposes is the same thing).

Mar-06-02, 01:55 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Signal Speed Limits" I'ts done on Marias Pass 3.0 this way in the sigcfg.dat file. Open the file using Wordpad and do a find on SpeedMPH:SpeedMPH ( 20 ) SignalFlags ( ASAP ) )instead of:SpeedMPH ( 20 ) )
which forces you to be at or below 20 MPH for this aspect.
From what little I understand of the scripts it's the
SignalFlags ( ASAP ) inserted in the SpeedMPH ( 20 ) ) line as shown above that does it.IOW, if you insert a "SignalFlags ( ASAP )" without the quotes in the SpeedMPH line in the scripts it will let you pass the aspect at speed track speed, and begin slowing As Soon As Possible, without incurring a speed penalty.I do realize that all real engine cabs on the NEC have a next signal ahead display but unfortunatly many of the add-on engines do not, forcing us to use the Sim F4 track monitor.Vince Cockeram

Mar-07-02, 05:53 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Signal Speed Limits" I added "SignalFlags ( ASAP )" to the signal aspect APPROACH_3 in the sigcfg.dat of the NEC but I still get a penalty brake application when passing the appraoch limited signal faster than 45 mph.I finaly omitted the speed limit of the APPROACH_3 signal aspect. With this modification I get at least a chance to slow down to 45 mph before the next signal.Felix Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
