Mar-05-02, 06:33 PM (EST) "RAWOWIN SWICHING ACTIVITY GENERATOR" Does anyone know anything about this activity generator? I saw it on a German website(www.train-simulator.sebastianfrey.de).Everything obviously is in German and I dont know how it works? Any help would be appreciated! Mar-05-02, 07:12 PM (EST) 1. "RE: RAWOWIN SWICHING ACTIVITY GENERATOR" Hmmm, well, I suspect a translator is needed because I have the same problem. That's not a criticism of Uliger, because German is his native language, but his English is beyond my understanding. Since he was writing it (I think) for the Port Ogden & Northern open-ended style activities, he's been emailing me the betas of this, and I can't figure out exactly what it's supposed to do, other than theoretically it will take the numbers from the loose consist cars out of the ACT file and generate a work order in text format or something. I append the English instructions I got from him in case someone else can puzzle it out, I haven't been able to.This is the first(?) Random Work Order generator for MSTS. In short the (DOS) name is RAWOORGE. This is no windows program, it belongs to the former DOS (Dinosaur Operating System) It runs well with my Windows 98 (1st version) Please let me know how it's running on a Windows this&that version.Unzip all in the same folder. I prefer a Rawoorge subfolder for.Player section:
What does this programs are doing how? Wrong question if you have already a Workfile.CSV and ORIGINAL.ACT. Both files ar needed for RaDoWoGe and belong together because the rrcar information in the Workfile.csv came from Original.Act You can copy Rawoorge.pif in Windows\Desktop. The you have it on the desktop. Start Rawoorge either as pif or as exe file. Make your choices and find a new created RandomWO.ACT Copy this file in the route's Activity subfolder. Start MSTS, chose the route and the Random W_Order Generator Activity. Start your huge loco and have some switching fun on the tracks. F11 is the key for the random workorder. OK, not as workorder but I'm sure you'll find it.
This is for the activity designers who likes to know more:
ActConv.Exe takes all rrcars out of the ORIGINAL.ACT file in WORKFIL1.CSV (There is NO change of the original Act file ) This Workfile1.csv YOU load into Excel. Enter origin location of rrcars, the region and the region number. But before: Know your route! You just finished editing in Excel? If you have another Workfile.csv now is the time to rename it to a whateverelse name so that it cannot be overwritten at the next step. Save the edited Workfil1.csv as Workfile.csv. Be sure that you've chosen the right format: Save it as Not as XLS worksheet! Chose Data interchange format for Dos and Windows (CSV) and then save it. Remember, the Original.Act and the new Workfile.csv are belonging together. The user has to know to what Route\Activity subfolder he has to copy the new RandomWO.Act after a RaDoWoGe run.Known problems: The rrcar count per region on the screen is not correct.
It may happen that you get one rrcar more as the max. number you enteredImportant: Work with copies of Act files. As this is a DOS program the filenames needed are hard coded in the program itself for that never a too long filename will screw up this. Hmm, if you enter unreasonable numbers then you'll get unreasonable results back...Files:
ACTCONV.EXE
>ACT file CONVersion< Input: ORIGINAL.ACT Output: WORKFIL1.CSV
RAWOORGE.EXE
>RandomWorkOrderGenerator< Input:ORIGINAL.ACT WORKFILE.CSV
Intermediate input file: WORKORDR.TXT
Output:RANDOMWO.CSV
Other files:
>RAWOORGE.PIF Windows PIF file (Shows up RaWoOrge on the desktop) >RaWoOrGe.TXT This information
>ORIGINAL.ACT a copy of the 4johnsburg.act of the PO&N v4 route
>WORKFIL1.CSV rrcar information taken out for the Original.Act
>WORKFILE.CSV Edited version of WorkFil1.Csv
>RANDOMWO.ACT Random Activity for the PO&N v4 route
>WORKORDR.TXT The workorder itself as it shows up with F11
>README.TXT a very short readme
>DEUTSCH.TXT A german language mix between the readme.txt and the RaWoOrGe.TxtRemarks: As I am a switching fan I love switching activitys. It was too boring to do the same stuff over and over again. I thought about it and my long not used programming skills) RaWoOrGe was born
Take care if you use this on different routes! Don't mix files. There should be enough rrcars parked here and there. If there are AI trains and a stupid HAL 9000 as dispatcher you may never ever have a chance to add a particular rrcar to your train.
No version name, no version history avail. by now because it's the very first try.To do list:
Fix bugs
Add field names to the *.csv files for better field info ** done
Better error interception inside, more error info outside
If wanted a bilingual english/german version
Add sourcecode to the Zip
Write a windows 'wrapper' app to get rid of that file copying. This should enable long filenames outside the prog as well, at least for a normal user.
As I (hopefully) mastered the 'Assemble a train from' part there's another part waiting. The 'Break up the train and bring it to' part is more complicated and for that it has to wait, sorry!

Mar-06-02, 05:34 AM (EST) 3. "RE: RAWOWIN SWICHING ACTIVITY GENERATOR" Hi Sniper!
Sorry, now you've got an old version! Now weather and season is changable. I did some fine tuning as well and rewrote the documentation. (Actually I'm still writing on it) I uploaded RaWoWin at a german site in the hope to get some response. There was none but now I know it runs well with Windows 2k and XP. In a post of yours you wrote >>>>
REBEL against the tyranny of rigid activities, cast off the bonds of setting up meets and having the activity end prematurely when the timing is off by two minutes! REPENT your addiction to the pop up windows telling you what you already know! REJOICE in the freedom of being able to play the same activity over and over again and meeting the AI trains in different places each time!
<<<< Your words are exactly reflecting my opinion. May I use it in the documentation?

Mar-06-02, 05:15 AM (EST) 2. "RE: RAWOWIN SWICHING ACTIVITY GENERATOR" As soon as I finished the documentation files (within two days???)I'll upload RaWoWin here at Train-sim.com.I wrote this freeware tool for the great PO&N routes as I love to do some switching work. RaWoWin creates a random list of rrcars (visible by F11 key) Drive around, pick up the rrcars and combine your train. To break up the train is not yet included. When I did the upload I'll announce it at the forums here.
