Mar-04-02, 11:46 PM (EST) "Ohio & West Virginia Railroading update" After barely escaping the hanging judge's noose, I finally got a chance to get back to work on the railroad. In no time there was a post that John Fowlis release the top secret Manhatten project, his repaint version of the WV&O (left side of the Ohio & WV Railroading) 0-8-0. I heard #405 was just leaving a 1910's built Steel Mill and couldn't resist the opportunity to take some pictures. Sure helps when you know the owner. The trip ends in Devola. We're not on the mainline here. Rather this is a branchline run.Message Areas - "Ohio & West Virginia Railroading update" – image 1 We're leaving the steel mill complex (objects by Nick Fitzsimmons)Message Areas - "Ohio & West Virginia Railroading update" – image 2 Crossing over the tunnel that leads to the Rolling Mill complexMessage Areas - "Ohio & West Virginia Railroading update" – image 3 Reaching Devola which is on the Ohio River, just north of Marietta.There's more pics of this run at my site on the Ohio & WV pic page:
www.edmfamily.com/msts/bo2.htmRich GarberPS In action docket #2371, the injunction against the Oh & WV was rescinded and the route will be avialable for public ownership soon (in other words, the honorable 'hanging' judge has allowed us to release the route).

Mar-05-02, 01:02 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Ohio & West Virginia Railroading update" Well, yeah. I mean.. that was decided a couple of days ago? Is that how long its been? See, this guy, (fill in name), he wanted (fill in reason) to have (fill in missing 18 minutes of tape) because (fill in mother's maiden name) and it just wasn't (fill in true/false). So I said (fill in next 18 minutes of missing tape) and then (fill in O&WV legal team) came up with (fill in your version of the truth) and (fill in Nels puppy dog's name) and that's why in post #10 of (fill in your favorite thread; mine was uncle charlie's wreck gallery where the trains went up in a plume cloud) and we all lived happily ever after except for the hanging judge who didn't get his (fill in favorite treat) from my girl he stole. I hope that clears everything up. Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-05-02, 06:06 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Ohio & West Virginia Railroading update" Yeah well, Rich,These terrific students in (Fill In, hint: Chicago) are using guilty a$$holes in the court of Judge (Fill-In, Hint: Here Come De Judge, he's a Sniper) to paint neon-fluorescent (Fill-in, Hint: canvASSses) which we all KNOW will make the students better artists with said painting practice on (Fill-In, Hint: ego-wannabes) and the students will smile with the praise of their artwork and make them proud citizens. And that is GOOD!And word has it that CNN's (Fill In, Hint: prime-time, e.g. Larry King) was a recent repaint by the kids. I am apprised that my former classmates, Lucy Komeandgetit (Fill-in, Hint: wa-hoo!) and the multi-national Luciano Krackyourbuttski (Fill-In, Hint: Bada-bing bada Krakus Ham) are being held with no bail, and the students are waiting for the fluorescent-painting-opportunity of the next canvASS with paint-brushes in hand and smiles on their faces! As a side note, I am also privy to info that only the (Fill-in, Hint: Obedient) students are being fed tapioca pudding as dessert as long as they don't think out-of-the-box; this by (Fill-In, Hint: well, no hints...)Most importantly,
a) Is the route the WV&O or the O&WV;
b) Please let the Train-Sim community know when it is ready for downloading with Pomp and Circumstance!Let the creativity continue...Thanks, Rich!

Mar-05-02, 08:47 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Ohio & West Virginia Railroading update" LOL! Gee I thought mine was bad!Okay... it is confusing... The confusion comes in because you are right on both accounts (fill in: there he goes again!)The package is what's called: Ohio & West Virginia Railroading
It will contain the route, maps (of the route) and a few tutorials using default equipment.The way its being distributed is what's causing the confusion because I will eventually create two add-ons: the WV&O and the Ohio River & Northern. Each of these will have their own activities and manual.But see... because I'm adding the RR's separately you can use your own RRs and you don't have to install mine. So you might want to run the whole route as just Erie Lackwanna or B&O, or Nickel Plate. You can do that and you won't have install my stuff which you may not need. So this won't be like the Metro package where everything came together all in one installation.I'm also wanting folks like the longyhairwizard to do steel making activity packages which includes the little thingamabopper cutie-pie engines that you might see in a real steel plant. I'm hoping between Bill's, Jason's Roberts, John Milligan, Cameron Lashley's input that the mills are sophisticated enough that you can run real steel activities like a real steel mill would. So all this can be packaged up and you can download it. Same with the logging routes. Download the shay and bring down lumber from the moutain and haul it off to the saw mill down by Marietta. The from there take it to the one of the two papermills.
In addition, this will also help me keep the file download size down too. Unlike the Metro which was a throw away, this route I plan to do more releases like Jim is on what... uhhhhh.... version 5 right... 5000 maybe... heh heh *feeling noose about the neck* JUST KIDDING JIMMM!!!Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-06-02, 11:09 AM (EST) 10. "RE: Ohio & West Virginia Railroading update" Gosh! Now you're getting me going on this too. I often had this thought that folks could do a diorama(?) type route. You know how you'll see someone do a small scene in model railroading? Well, imagine a very small route where someone gets to run the old trains. I wouldn't myself want to do a long route of such a thing. Takes to long. But a short route featuring early trains would be fun and educational I think.I even have this idea that you can do.. now don't laugh ... battlefield tours. I was just watching Gettysburg and thought it would be neat to DEM the area and then run a tourist train around the battlefield. I was there when I was a kid. Would be cool to see it again. Make some civil war type objects... then take the General around the field for a tour.Just a thought.Rich Garber

Mar-06-02, 11:18 AM (EST) 11. "RE: Ohio & West Virginia Railroading update" brings up the old issue of a serious lack of ww11 germain rail mounted artilliary surley we're only talkin a large gondola car with a big gun. Anyway there is a site http://www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk that has for offer turn of the century maps of england and this is what I am (trying) to bace my route on, I understand that we are still talkin 100 years nearly out of sink to the old stevenson era but they should give some one a starting idea the only problem at the moment is that they are concentrating on the larger urban areas (manchester, liverpool, wigan, london etc) so finding the out liying area's may be a tad more difficult.
