Feb-26-02, 05:10 AM (EST) "A word (or two) from XTracks creator" Hi everybody, sorry that I have not been very visible lately.
A flu kept me off line most of the time for the last couple of weeks (I don't have internet access at home). As you probably have notised there is a new XTracks out and this release does add a lot compared to the previous one.
Modular switches (which I'm very proud of), tunnel switches, small and large radius curves, a roundhouse (implemented as a track section for ease of use) and more narrow gauge sections.
For a preview of what is included you can go to http://www.geocities.com/okrasaghia/XTracks XTracks is not an easy click the button and forget about it installation unfortunately. This is due to the way MSTS works and it's not much that can be done about that. All track sections included should work though and personally I think it worth updating (but then I'm biased). If we work together and help each other out it will get better with time but remember that track sections and how they work is not covered by any of the techdocs. All we know is learned the hard way and there is plenty more to learn probably. I think I must have one of the most abused installations of MSTS, moving routes, trains and other files around and changing many things in global files but it still works and I have not had to re-install yet. MSTS is poorly documented but much is possible todo just don't expect to get everything working first time. Those having mailed me directly regarding the new XTracks release I have answered. Threads in the forum others have helped as much as they can. If you have any questions, thoughts, suggestions or other please post it here or mail me and I will answer the best I can.

Feb-26-02, 09:41 AM (EST) 1. "RE: A word (or two) from XTracks creator" Just a word of thanks to the creator of XTracks. I'm in the process of creating a street railway/interurban scenario, and the special sections added have been a great help. I'd still like to see a much sharper turnout as found when a street car goes around a corner at a street intersection into a wye. I could also use a 60 degree crossing ("Xover") in MSTS terminology.I had no trouble with the installation of either this or previous versions of this add-on. Just follow the instructions to the letter. I feel it is an indispensable add-on to route designers.Dave Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

But I appreciate the massive amount of work that has gone into it.Thanks for helping make MSTS a better game for all of us.Henry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-26-02, 02:42 PM (EST) 3. "RE: A word (or two) from XTracks creator" Hi,I downloaded, but never installed Xtracks v1.0, because I was well into my route, and it looked a little complicated/risky at that time. As soon as I saw Xtracks v2.0 was finished and uploaded, I grabbed it straight away! After looking at the instructions for about 2 mins, I knew I could, and should install this version with no problems. This I did, and all went ok. I then run "Horace" and proceeded to load my route in the editor to continue work with it. It refused to load. I then run MSTS, and sure enough, as I would run the train over a section of dynamic track, the train would derail instantly. I then re-read the instructions, realised I should have run "Horace" on ALL the default routes, and everything was 100% ok I have used a few different parts of Xtracks 2 already, but have not yet had the courage to get into any complex track laying with slips etc. I know I will soon though, as it is easy to see just what a fantastic addon it is for MSTS route design. I thank you very much OkrasaGhia for all your superb efforts at designing this amazing software, and for sharing it with the MSTS community. I for one, am very grateful.Best wishes,Andrew (Class37) Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-27-02, 02:40 AM (EST) 5. "RE: A word (or two) from XTracks creator" A word of caution, to read Okrasa's words very carefully, especially if you are a route designer! Okrasa has givin us a great tool here, which he no doubt spent a great deal of time on. I have also begun to work with the MSTS track sections, and have a novice grasp on how they work. Though I have been learning from the master and using some of his tips when doing it. One very important thing for route designers to know is that it is imparitive to let the user know that you use XTracks and what version for the route, and be prepared to answer questions on it, so be ver careful. Again, this is a very large tool, and must be treated with lots of respect, if it is not then it will be of harm and not help in the long run. Another thank you to Okrasa.-Chris
