Jun-21-01, 11:47 AM (EST) "Question?" I set and read about all the problems with MSTS. And I have them too. But it just struck me? I don't see many post about Steam
Train operations and some about electrial. Seems like all the
problems are with diesl trains and the Marias pass routes.
Am I wrong? Are they folks driving steam trains and not having
any problems? Don't get me wrong I am having as many lock ups
and problems. as I read on the forum. And I like to run the
Dash 9 on the Marias Pass route.
Regards

Jun-21-01, 11:10 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Question?" The Royal Scotsman locked up after approx. 5 min. of operation. I have a voodoo-4500 AGP and a sound-blaster live/value. MSTS crashes a lot. I'm not sure what's causing it yet, but I must get this working right. Also, the activity editor is buggy as heck, I can't get that to work right either. "RE: Question?" my son hasn't had any of these problems I been reading about here. what are you all doing to cause them? he has never had a coupler break, and his computer has not crashed yet while playing, and he's had it on for 9 hours yesterday with no probs. Jun-22-01, 03:24 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Question?" I, too, have had none of the problems that everyone has been having, and I run the Marias Pass almost exclusively. I have a coupler break every now and then, but only on long runs and normally after the train tried to be a runaway, which I would expect to cause a lot of stress on the couplers. The only problems that I have had are in bad route design. There are a few spots where the tracks suddenly kick off two one side and if you are traveling at more than 25-35 mph, your cars will derail, which is quite annoying.-----------------------------------------------------------------

Jun-22-01, 10:36 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Question?" You know, I've seen this derailment thing and I wondered what I was doing wrong. I'd be just at the top end of the speed limit and suddenly, there would be that unexpected eternal shot that means TROUBLE!!Actually, I'd love to see more steam and steam ops in here. I've grown a little tired of the deasels, and will be switching over to the scotsman later this weekend.I'd sure love to see the Coast Route done. The SP line from San Luis Obispo to Watsonville is interesting, especially in the 50s (I model it in Nscale). I'd really like to run a consolidation in and out of the Fruit Sheds at Salnias, dodging the daylights as I cross the main. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-22-01, 04:11 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Question?" Speaking for myself I mainly drive the Diesels. I'm sure if i drove the Electrics and Steamers i'd still have the coupler probs that i have with the Diesels. I really don't have many couplers probs anyway, just one in particular after 4 hours of play and no saves. Oops! Like stated above the main probs i have are with poorly designed activites which isn't the game's fault. Tried doing an add-on Whitefish switching activity but couldn't throw some of the switches so i could complete the task. Kinda frustrating after 4.5 hours of gameplay. I only had to park one more car as well as the Loco and i would've been done... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-22-01, 03:19 PM (EST) 6. "My steaming activities..." I have run the entire english route and will finish the Orient express route this weekend using the proper engines. The only issues I have are if you don't stick to some of the speed limits on the Orient route, you derail pretty easy. Make sure you have the auto-fireman turned on or you will spend more time in the cab then looking around. I connected three Flying Scottsmen together and took a frieght run over Marias pass without a hitch either. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
