I just ran 25 miles of the seaview route.. OUTSTANDING !!!!!!
Its very nicely layed out and the secenery is fantastic !!!
I installed it on my slower pentium machine and still got an avarage framerate of 14 to 16 no its not to bad...
The mixture of scenery is wll thought out and the Rock quarry with the construction equipment is nice... the surprizes like the truck in the lake, the speeder getting pulled over , ect ect.. really set this route off.... going to be a favorite of mine ...patm41

You said it Pat, this is a must have route. Bill is a little shy about it, and rather apologetic about the fact that it's a fantasy route rather than a prototype, but it has some very realistic elements to it, and much more important, it's fun for kids of all ages. The long-awaited Island of Sodor can wait a while longer, Thomas and friends just LOVE this route. And even if you're not a kid, it's a must-see for adults too, especially those who complain there's never anything new. With this route, Bill has shown a number of brand new things that can be done with the route editor. The volcano is particularly ingenious, and the burnt out area around it should be studied by all route developers to see some of the clever ways that some ordinary default objects can be used to look like completely different objects by rotating and half burying them. Forget the 27mb download, this one is worth buying a DSL service for. If you live in one of those areas that don't have DSL or cable, quit your job, divorce your wife, and spend as much time as it takes to get this download. Brilliant route, spectacular eye-candy, challenging to drive, zillions of things you haven't seen before, GREAT little details like the truck run off the road and the sailors trying to right a knocked-down sailboat, and I haven't even seen the whole route yet! I gotta go, time to explore Seaview some more.Jim Ward

Sea View esperately needs a few simple activities so that people can start various places and do something besides look at the scenery. By the way I got started on Sea View 2 tonight. Your Seaview Route is terrific. It installed without a hitch. I only ran the route once. I missed the switch to the
Vault. I also did'nt notice the Red light. What i've seen so far
is new different from any other route I have tried. As for the frame rates, they ran from The high 30s. to the mid 40s. My computer specs. are in my profile.
Thanks again for a fabulouse route. I can't wait for the updates.

Feb-20-02, 09:27 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Seaview route get it !!" patm41,Great to hear you are enjoying my route. I have been very concerned about frame rates, so I am glad to hear you are not having a problem. Sea View desperately needs a few simple activities so that it isn't just a drive and enjoy the scenery route. I'm hoping someone will do some. If not, maybe I can figure out how, but I would rather spend my time on Sea View 2.Bill Burnett Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-20-02, 10:38 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Seaview route get it !!" The Seaview runs ok on my pentiumII 500 mzh with 512 ram and a Nvida 2 32mx ,, Some of the heavy secenic areas it drops off to 8-10 fpc but thats to be expected with an older machine.. I run 2 engines, and 10 to 40 cars,,(older repaints with low poly counts) If I would compair it Frame Rate wise id say the SeaView and Sniper's PO&N V5 are equal (on this machine). You can bet that The Seaview, PO&N , East Metro, and my Maglev routes will be the first add ons routes to install on my P4 system when its finished!!!
As far as activitys go dont worry about it.. there alot of talented people out there that will make them..(Hint, Hint,Longhaired Wizzard) !!! Any way thank you for building this great route !! (ok Sniper get version 6 started!!! )

Feb-21-02, 00:37 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Seaview route get it !!" Who cares about PO&N6, I'm busy playing with seaview!
Seriously, i don't have any framerate problems at all, but I got some serious muscle (Athlon XP1600+, 256mb DDR, GEFORCE 2 GTS/PRO 64mb AGP). My youngest son has been going crazy with it on his machine:
Motherboard: ASUS A7V
Processor: AMD Thunderbird (Athlon) 800MHZ
Memory: 384 MB PC133 SDRAM
Video: 3D Blaster Annihilator 2 64MB AGP
WD Caviar ATA-66 5400rpm 30 gig hdI don't know what kind of frame rates he's getting, but I've been watching him run that mischeivous blue tank engine all over the route, and every time I stop to look over his shoulder I don't see any stuttering, only crashing (the metal bending kind with things coming off the track and into the water, not the software kind of crashing). I haven't tried to write activities for it yet, and the activities he's written for it so far involve head on collisions with James or some other engine, so I couldn't really tell you if the signals are set up correctly or not. I suspect he actually removed the signals in the route editor, since in his activities the goal is for the player to deliberately collide with the AI traffic, so who needs signals anyway!
One other item, Bill, you mentioned not being a former model railroader, so you probably don't know what I'm talking about when I say you have the John Allen touch. Model railroaders have a saying, "There's a prototype somewhere for everything", meaning no matter how offbeat you make something, there's a real world equivalent somewhere. My oldest son (18 years older than my youngest, he's a US Army Artillery Instructor) sent me this pic of a repainted former Soviet Mi-24 helicopter;

And I'm sure if I do some digging, I could eventually come up with pictures of real scenes that look like some of the wierder areas on Seaview. May have to go off-planet for some, but what the hey! So don't worry about the future, what you have is great, and the more bizarre you get with future areas, the more whackos like me are gonna love it! Feb-21-02, 09:49 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Seaview route get it !!" LAST EDITED ON Feb-21-02 AT 09:58 AM (EST)Sniper, thanks for all the feedback. I was concerned about frame rates on a typical computer. My computer is almost identical to yours but with 512MB DDR RAM and a Geforce 3. Love that helicopter (giant bird?). Looks like it belongs in Sea View. I am hoping to learn to prepare and use those panels (backdrops) that have been a recent topic of discussion. The vault would have been a lot better lined with cave panels. Oh well, you are hard to try and keep up with, but Sea View 2 is under development.Bill Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-21-02, 01:16 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Seaview route get it !!" Bill,I bow at the feet of a Master. I have travelled the length of the route and in my opinion it is superb. For a first route which installed first time and has given no problems (apart from getting the the new Chief up some of the inclines!!) it is truly amazing. Some of the object placements are, as far as I know firsts. Especially liked the posters in the tunnels - nice touch. And now instead of resting on your laurels you have set off on Seaview 2.As far as I am concerned Seaview and PO&N are the routes by which others will be judged along with Rich Garber's new route judging by his screenshots.Bill

Feb-21-02, 06:02 PM (EST) 13. "RE: Seaview route get it !!" Hi Bill, how are things across the pond? Thanks for the compliments but you a laying it on a little thick. LOL.
Jim Ward helped me with the install batch file. Only problem, it didn't work with Route Control. Jak immediately added some new code to RC. Version 1.05 of Route Control should be available any day that will be compatible with my route and PO&N.
I am getting to work now on Sea View 2.Bill Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-21-02, 06:20 PM (EST) 14. "RE: Seaview route get it !!" BillThings are fine on this side - winter seems to have given us a miss but it is not nearly as exotic as chez Seaview. You are far too modest - it is a great route both scenically and technically and the Vault is superb. As Sniper said this is a great route for kids and whether they be 7 or 57 it is great fun which is what this should be about . I have had Thomas and friends round it as well this evening!!Bill

Feb-21-02, 09:56 PM (EST) 16. "RE: Seaview route get it !!" Hi Alex,The answer is yes, I ran the brand new TA F7 Super Chief through the entire route today. With the steep grades, I found it extremely difficult especially controling my speed on the long downhill grades, but I enjoyed the view from the observation car. I strongly recommend a more appropriate consist and then operating it at low speeds.Bill Burnett Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-21-02, 11:47 PM (EST) 17. "RE: Seaview route get it !!" I just finished downloading Seaview Route, got it in 7:35 min at an average of 60~ Kb/Sec. Not the best d/l speed to be sure, but am not complaining. My former dialup would have been more than two hours, so 7-1/2 minutes ain't bad at all.I watched the download dialog box. The d/l definitely stopped dead in its tracks several times, then resumed where it had left off. This may be an individual server thing - if the user's ISP doesn't have the software to recover from stop-and-go he will be tossed out on his ear. But I don't know for sure; a good bit of the time this stuff is more witchcraft than science. Anyways, when cable works properly, its the cat's meow. That's what I tell my two cats, at any rate. They ignore me, of course, which cats are very good at doing.Bing

Mar-05-02, 08:10 PM (EST) 19. "RE: Seaview route get it !!" First let me say the seaview route is excelent, good job. I have a question, how do you get a diesel engine+trainset to get up at least out of port pelican, the turns just stall it, the only diesel i could get up there was just the engine, i elctrified the route and set it to 0.5 meters to act like a third rail like in the chicago elevated railway route, and watching the acela express go up that first hill was the funniest thing i ever saw! Anyway, i would like to be able to find a way to get some diesel trainsets through the route. Thanx, JesseP.S. You really should add a station @ Port Pelican, i did it just for the fun of it, and it works very nicly, i had so much fun, i added an airport, flying airplanes, a ship wreck, a plane crash in the volcano, and another boat that is stuck in the top of the vault, it's very interesting.
