Feb-19-02, 06:03 PM (EST) "What's THAT up in the air??" LAST EDITED ON Feb-19-02 AT 06:07 PM (EST)A bird? A train? NO. It's a ...?Message Areas - "What's THAT up in the air?" – image 1 Well, actually it's a Flying Circus Blimp which I just uploaded to the files area. And Yes, it DOES fly around your route. And it even has a night texture to help advertise the Circus.Message Areas - "What's THAT up in the air?" – image 2 If you don't have a circus, maybe the Fujifilm Blimp is for you. It is a separate object and flies a different path and altitude, so you can have both if you want.Message Areas - "What's THAT up in the air?" – image 3Or how about a generic Blimp?Message Areas - "What's THAT up in the air?" – image 4 It too is colorful, true to prototype and highly detailed, yet each is only 550 polys and uses a single 256x256 texture. You might even like to have them all at the same time!Message Areas - "What's THAT up in the air?" – image 5 They each come with complete easy-to-follow instructions for installation and activating the animation. And each has a "spotter post" that you place on the groundMessage Areas - "What's THAT up in the air?" – image 6The spotter always points at your blimp so you can easily place it and find it. Then you can hide the post when you are happy with the behavior of the blimp in your route. Also included with the files are special thumbnails to replace the "invisible" thumbnails produced by the Route Editor, so you can see what you get.
Message Areas - "What's THAT up in the air?" – image 7So why not have some fun. Put a little life into a static route and go FLY a BLIMP!
I hope you enjoy them - watch for MORE animated stuff soon!

No tracks. This is animated scenery. Just place it and turn it on.>Is this just for developers?
nope its for anybody who likes to have fun.>Can a shmoe like me simply
>download and get these things flying in my existing routes?
The instructions are pretty clear and simple if you know how to open a .ref file in Wordpad. The average shmoe should be able to do it (you sound above average, I'd say). It can be placed in any route using Route Editor (which is fairly easy to learn - at least the basics of how to place objects)To clear up any confusion: this is not a blimp that you fly (it just flies by itself) - but you have given me an idea... maybe adding a .eng file and a cabview... OK back to the drawing board!

Feb-21-02, 10:52 AM (EST) 12. "RE: What's THAT up in the air??" Hi Enocell!
Nice blimp - I didn't see it in the DL section here - have you made it available? I'd like one if it is available. (I have all your buildings, BTW and like them very much). As far as animating text or images, I don't think MSTS has any way of doing that, and it really is a shame. There is so much that could be done with texture swapping. It would be a lot of fun to see animating marquee lights on movie theaters and carnival rides - I've seen a few examples of blinking (flashing) lights - so maybe we should investigate that mechanism to see if it could be used for other porposes. The blimps were uploaded here two days ago, so should be made available soon. I guess Nels is just playing with Sea View and didn't get around to posting the new submissions yet.
