Feb-12-02, 06:09 PM (EST) "Initial splash screen" Somewhere there was a note on how to eliminate the start-up splash screen and audio when Train Simulator starts. But, I can't find it now. Any clues would be appreciated. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Yeah It's called your finger!! Use the escape key when it starts and it'll skip it!! It's not a good idea to go tinkering with the startup routine because there are other problems it can cause!Reagrds,

Feb-12-02, 07:48 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Initial splash screen" Yes, just delete or rename or move the mpg file found in ....\Train Simulator\GLOBAL folder.
I bet someone will tell you to edit Registry after my post, but there is aboslute no need to edit, just remove the file.

Feb-12-02, 08:08 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Initial splash screen" True, the most elegant way is to edit the registry, but how elegant is it to crash your entire system because of an error while editing? Registry editing is dangerous for the novice! For the brave or experienced there is a thread written by Jim Steven on what sub-key to edit. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-12-02, 11:43 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Initial splash screen" Me, I didn't edit anything. I just started MSTS one time and they were gone! Microsoft and Kuju! Everything else is working fine, including the new patch (knock on wood). Go figure. -------------> Al Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-13-02, 07:54 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Initial splash screen" the only way to get your system running at peak performance is by registry editing.

Feb-13-02, 10:04 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Initial splash screen" But he doesn't want peak perfomance. He just wants to remove the spash screen.
"Why on the earth would you foce someone (who you don't know how skilled he is)
to go into registry if the problem could be solved by renaming the file?"
That's what I ment.

Feb-13-02, 10:30 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Initial splash screen" Ok, Ok, I'm going to tell him about the regedit thing. Beat me if you must. Unless you've got a hand tremor or have been drinking heavily, or have a funky keyboard, it ain't that hard. Of all places to find the answer, you might be amazed at where this procedure is located. Go to http://support.microsoft.com and search on the left hand side of the page, using the drop down menu for "Games for the PC" at the support center. Just below "Games for the PC" is another search entry field - type in "train simulator movie". The article that appears gives step by step instructions about changing a "1" to a "0" in the regedit file, to eliminate the movie. The scary thing about regedit is that if you screw-up, you might need to buy a new computer. Perhaps one with an updated graphics card, faster processor and more RAM! Mark

Feb-13-02, 06:16 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Initial splash screen" Thats where I read it, and thank you.
The registry doesn't bother me. The only error I have made in the last month was to attempt to fix the stuttering in my DVD-ROM device after switching to XP, by downloading and installing the wrong "firmware", which immediately burned up the chip and caused me to buy a new DVD-ROM

Feb-13-02, 12:17 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Initial splash screen" Georgi you don't have to force him.... Tell him what all the options are and let him make up his own mind...
If he is comfortable with regedit then so be it. If not then you have given him the alternative to it.
What the heck do we geeks gain by concealing the registry editing option... Especially as Microsoft has published it in the KB...
Good thing Marc put the link in or I would have....
You can't dictate people's choices to them. That kind of thinking is at the heart of what made the Soviet Union the success it is/was!

Feb-13-02, 07:06 PM (EST) 12. "RE: Initial splash screen" Well, MS has rearranged the support stuff, and it is really hard to find the articles. Seems to me all of the Kb Train Sim articles should be listed somewhere.
Anyway, if anyone else ever looks for this, the knowledge base article is: Q299940 D Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
