Feb-08-02, 10:59 PM (EST) "Trains Magazines" let's say I wanted to subscribe for a few, I did a little research on the web (small one) but most magazines are too specialized (on one timeline or one type / carrier company / country), are there any magazines covering reasonable timeline that would include more or less all types af american locomotives? you just have to tell me the name, I'll find it on the net myself (if sold through the internet). If there are no such, then at least something specialized on all-times Amtrak (oh yeah!), or SF, BN, (BNSF) UP and SP, that would be pretty much it
And what do you usually people subscribe to? Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-09-02, 01:01 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Trains Magazines" There are several magazines out there for the railfans, and they range from national coverage of all eras to very specific news type magazines. Here is a rundown.Trains Magazine: The oldest and most respected, covers news and feature articles of all eras and intrests from passenger to frieght.Railfan & Railroad: Much like trains, but has somewhat of a eastern slant.CTC Board: A glossy paper magazine with excellent photos and very extensive news section of all railroads. Feature articles are mostly about modern railroading and somewhat of a western slant, but the photography can't be beat. Annual issues such as "Day in North America" and "Storm Light" are well worth the cover price.Railway Age: A industry magazine that covers industry issues, generally not of intrest to railfans.Extra 2200 South: A Diesel enthusists magazine, these are the roster and frame number nuts, but very good histories on various locomotive classes.Classic Trains: The old Vintage Rails magazine that Pentrex sold to Kalmbach. All about railroading from the early -middle 1900's.Flimses West: Monthly detailed news for the Southwest/California.Northwest Railfan: Monthly Detailed News for the northwest.TRP: Covers railraoding from the 40's through the 70's with lengthy feature articles.Tall Timber Shortlines: Covers logging railroads with a slant to the northwest. There are also other various magazines out there about railroading, but these are the best known ones. There are also a ton of Model Railroading Magazines out there as well.Ted Curphey
