Feb-06-02, 01:46 PM (EST) "Newbie" Hello all
Although I have lots of flight sims, I'm a train sim newbie.
When I got this as a Xmas present, I thought, "how exciting can this be?" I was wrong - I'm hooked.
I first want to say thank you to all the talented route and train developers - you've already made the sim far more interesting. I've downloaded a lot of good stuff.
Now I've tried to read as many posts as possible, but...
I do have a question. Originally being from South Jersey, when I saw the Hoboken version 4 Route, I just had to download it.
Love exploring the whole thing. Even created some very simple point a to point b activities. But every time I get on the Newark Bay bridge, or start on the south side, my computer locks up. Sometimes it just locks up, sometimes I get the Microsft Send message, sometimes I get an error message regarding the 250 radius track, (but I've made sure I have that in my Shapes folder, both in my root and Route directories). On the rest of the route I have no problems.
I have an Athlon 900, 512 Ram, Geforce3 Ti200 64 mb with Nvidia 23.11 drivers, Creative SB512 soundcard, Win 98se, DirectX 8.0, and the train sim patch that just came out.
Does anybody else have this problem with "the Bridge" ?

Feb-07-02, 06:45 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Newbie" That's interesting as nobody else has mentioned it before, and i had the same problem. Everytime when i was approaching the Lehigh Valley/Pennsy Newark Bay Bridge from the south just in front of the interlocking tower the computer hang up. I tried it several times with the same bad luck.
I tried it from the other side (Oak Island Yard) and no problems at all.
As there was so much to discover i just avoided to try to cross the bridge that direction, but after having been nearly everywhere (main lines at least) i tried the bridge again and to my complete surprise this time i had no problems at all.
I've crossed the bridge quite often since then and never got hanged up again.
I got no idea what the problem was, but obviously i wasn't the only one.
I'd suggest to do it like me: First drive the rest, maybe it works on your computer, too. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-07-02, 12:46 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Hoboken Problem -Newbie" Nope, the Newark Bay Bridge just doesn't want to work for me.I keep trying, approaching the Newark Bridge from either end, and it still locks up.
In fact, when exploring any of the whole Newark area side, the sim runs great for 10-15 minutes, then locks up, then gives me the "Microsoft Send" box.The rest of the Route runs great, no problems, and I consider it a work of art. I just can't go to Newark.
(Having really been there, I dont need to go back -grin/grin) Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-07-02, 01:19 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Hoboken Problem -Newbie" I get the same error, but I'm also getting it at other points also, and when I try to change the seasons and/or add weather. The whole game crashes. I installed the patch, but it didn't seem to fix all the problems. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-07-02, 01:50 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Hoboken Problem -Newbie" I also experienced the problem just last night. I thought, at first, it was a consist problem so I tried a completely different consist with the same problem. Both consists work ok on Port Ogden * Northern and East Metro. My next thought was that it is "the patch" but I have reached the conclusion that this is a BETA version of the route and I shouldn't expect everything to work properly. As large and complex as this route is, I can realize what a job it is to get everything working!I have done quite a bit of exploring and since I am not familiar with the area, I find it very easy to get lost! The scenery is great except for a few areas I have found where there is no scenery. This must be the Hoboken desert! I found one place, apparently a dock, where I drove to the end of the track and my loco simply sunk down through the track and disappeared!I am really looking forward to the final version of this route. Keep up the good work. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
